Report
Good evening fellow classmates and professor, Airbnb is a technology-based company that competes as an Authority in the hospitality and travel industry against large Prime Hotel companies. Airbnb was founded in 2007 and the current CEO Brian Chesky saw big business opportunity during the 2008 recession to offer a cheaper option for short-term housing rentals than paying more to stay at a hotel (Williams, 2022). This idea came about when Brian was financially broke and decided to rent out a mattress in a house he was renting with three other roommates and saw the future business potential. Value Proposition Airbnb provides value to both the host and the guest through their online platform with out owning any physical real estate properties. Airbnb’s unique value proposition is providing a cheaper, authentic, and personalized alternative to traditional hotel accommodations, and to provide property hosts another way to generate income without worrying about potential risks with a simple onboarding process (Sarnecka, 2019). They basically offer guests unique stay experiences that are priced lower than hotels. Airbnb’s Vision Airbnb’s vision statement is, “to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere,” and to focusing on creating an end-to-end travel platform that handles all aspects of a guest’s/traveler’s trip (Airbnb, 2019). The founders of Airbnb believe in providing a platform that connects people who want to share their homes with others and provide a unique travel experience. Additionally, this vision also aims to support local communities, promote tourism, and boost economies through offering services in addition to a stay. Airbnb’s Leadership
The main leadership of Airbnb is driven by the original three co-founders Brian Chesky, Nathan Blecharczyk, and Joe Gebbia. Brian is the CEO and sets the vision and strategy for the company and has overseen its growth with over 4 million hosts, 1.4 billion in guest, and in 220+ countries around the world (Airbnb, 2023). Nathan is the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) who drives the key strategic initiatives for the global business, and provide the understanding of the company, public policy, what they offer, data, and the long-term interest of stakeholders. He has also led the development of Airbnb’s platform, payment processing, and marketing efforts for the company’s performance. Lastly, Joe Gebbia is co-founder and chairman of Airbnb.org, which is independently operated as a non-profit organization that helps connect people in a crisis with places to stay as part of their emergency response effort (USCCF, 2019). These efforts have focused on natural disasters, global refugee crisis, and also events from the recent pandemic. Overall, the leadership of Airbnb has been vital to the company’s success for the hospitality and travel industry, as well as for local economies and communities around the world. Resources Airbnb.
