SWOT
A SWOT analysis is a planning and research process that an entity needs to conduct to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of either itself or another entity. The objective of the analysis is to help organizations develop an understanding of all the factors involved in making a business decision. (Schooley, 2023). This strategy can also be useful to an individual who is starting a small business and seeking to discover their competitive advantage by researching the attributes and milestones of their competitors. There is an assortment of internal and external factors that affect the outcome of any company’s performance. A SWOT analysis is recommended to be conducted before conducting a company action to ensure it aligns with company goals. Moreover, conducting this analytical strategy will display the current landscape of the organization to see what areas are performing well and what areas are not. As the holidays approach, Amazon is gearing up for its highest grossing quarter during 2023. This powerhouse company started with humble beginnings as a small online bookstore that many people doubted. As the rise of the internet continued, owner Jeff Bezos saw an opportunity to scale the brand by selling more products online, offering memberships, video and audiobook subscriptions, services, and developing a logistical system to distribute purchased products directly to customers. In addition, the company developed an opportunity for small business to sell as a third-party, allowing people to make money independently. The company forecasts revenue up to $167 billion (about $510 per person in the US) during the 4 th quarter alone. Amazon is currently valued at over $1 trillion.
Amazon’s strength as a brand is credited to the public’s awareness of the name and logo. The company has successfully marketed to establish its dominance as a brand. Amazon has also become known as a reliable brand that focuses on selling products, customer service, and a variety of delivery options. Having strong brand awareness increases the chance of a customer purchasing products or services. By taking advantage of the technology that developed over the Amazon is structured to host a wide variety of products that are third-party dependent, who arbitrages the product for a profit. The platform is accessible to anyone who has a smartphone or computer, enabling the user to shop at their convenience. Amazon’s diverse product offering allows the company to meet the demands of a broad variety of customers. (Pereira, 2023). Amazon has been able to maintain success having a diverse product offering because they partner with other companies to create or source products and sell the products for a profit using Amazon’s platform. There are 3 ways a small business can become an Amazon seller, the first is wholesaling which involves a company hosting a large quantity of a product acquired from a vendor. This option can be beneficial to a company that aims to build a relationship with a vendor and automate their sales. Online or Retail arbitrage is a process where an individual or small business sources a product either online or a discount store to sell on Amazon for a profit. Retail arbitrage is great for anyone to start selling on Amazon because it has low barrier entry. For $40 a month a register entity partnered with Amazon can walk into a Walmart clearance isle, find a profitable product, and sell on Amazon based on the demand of the item. The downside of this option is the competition, since it is easy to start, many of the stores are already shopped by other Amazon sellers. Private labeling is the third option and involves a seller sourcing a white label product from a manufacturer like Alibaba and branding it to sell on Amazon. Some popular private labels are Nike, Adidas, and Sharpie. Sellers have the option of shipping products
