Chapter 17 – Organizational Planning and Controlling
Organizational planning is important for various reasons. Plans help the managers as well
as the employees. Many factors contribute to the necessity for organizational planning. Our text explains why organizational planning is beneficial to an organization. First, in the internal environment, as an organization becomes more prominent and complex, the task of managing becomes more complicated. Planning maps out future activities within an organization. Secondly, organizational planning is important because a manager's uncertainty grows significantly as the external environment becomes increasingly complex and turbulent. Planning allows organizations to approach their environment systematically. Firms that fail to follow a clear plan day-to-day will not be as successful as those that follow a concise plan. (Bright et. al.,

2019). Managers are often very busy. They spend time performing multiple tasks and communicating with numerous people throughout the organization. These are a couple of reasons employees may not notice their manager forming a plan. Planning and control often coincide within an organization. Planning lays out a company's goals and the mission and steps for companies to meet market demands. Controls are implemented so companies can contend with changes when they inevitably occur ("Planning and control," 2023). A pizza company may use those formats to maintain its standards. They could form a plan to make the pizzas the exact sizes, and they could aim to have faster delivery drivers make longer trips. In contrast, the slower
drivers make shorter ones, so pizza delivery is consistent regardless of location. Many pizza shops also have online status. They could monitor how well they are doing based on customer reviews. There are also apps that managers can download based on the company they work for, and it's an app that customers complain about service. That way, they can keep an eye on how well their employees are treating customers. According to our text, “Management by objectives (MBO) is a philosophy of management, a planning and controlling technique, and an employee-
involvement program”(Bright et. al., 2019). The MBO incorporates planning and goal setting because the MBO would fail without them. The text explains that “The following four major components of the MBO process are believed to contribute to its effectiveness: (1) setting specific goals; (2) setting realistic and acceptable goals; (3) joint participation in goal setting, planning, and controlling; and (4) feedback” (Bright et. al., 2019). Chapter 18 – Management of Technology and Innovation (MTI)
It is important for an organization to actively manage and update its technology because technology is consistently changing. If an organiziation did not update its technology it would
