Memorandum TO: Dr.Melendez Department of Management and Organizations FROM: BNAD 302 RE: Tracy Vo [ Manager, Merch Data and Analytics, Sprouts Farmers Market] DATE: October, 3 2023 (1) What did you find most interesting about Tracy Vo's (Manager, Merch Data and Analytics, Sprouts Farmers Market) background? I found Tracy Vo’s background extremely interesting and vulnerable. She started off saying how she was always dead set on going to medical school and pursuing her career in medicine. Unfortunately, that dream didn’t work out for her. But, Tracy was strong enough to acknowledge that it's okay to know when to quit. She is vulnerable because it takes a lot to accept that what you always thought and hoped for yourself, isn’t going to work out. Tracy’s background and story is inspiring because she didn’t let her past road bumps get in the way of her future success and she kept pushing on. The fear of disappointing her parents, and leaving a potential career that everyone respects and thinks highly of was extremely hard for her. Tracy said she just had to do it, instead of asking them, she told her family that this wasn’t for her, to put her life first. She played with risk and reward and decided it was best for her to not waste anymore time trying to pursue the medical field, if she knew deep down that it wasn’t for her. (2) Which part of Tracy’s presentation on high-performing teams, communication, or leadership did you find most insightful? Why? The part of Tracys presentation that I found most interesting was the topic of Leadership. She mentioned that she has a high value for leaders that are vulnerable. Her current boss has given her a lot of independence and autonomy, to express herself and find her own motivation for the work. She appreciates how her boss has given her trust and understanding. As long as she takes accountability, he will still trust her. Leadership is very unique and everyone has a different style. She also suggests asking about leadership when interviewing for a job, to see what it is really like. Tracy brings up the point how its important to see how these leaders deal with frustration, and how they react. Tracy appreciates real and authenticity from a leader, so there is no guessing on what they really feel. Those are the qualities that she values in leadership and what she looks for in a team. Also, she looks for a team that would have something to eat with and talk about things outside of work, but not too close that could be a bad mix. Having a good mix of friends and coworkers is what creates the most high performance team.
