Training and Development HRM 6303
Dr. Al November 25, 2023
There are several resources that help shape the training and development of an executive team.
Training and Development HRM 6303 is one of those resources that can greatly benefit the growth, development, and training of many executive leaders. During the last eight or so weeks we have covered
many topics that focus on training and development and theories that help shape training and development programs for leadership and career planning. One of the first important aspects we looked at in this course that is very valuable to the training
and development of executive leadership is the Thomas Kilmann Styles of conflict management model. As leaders it is important to understand how to handle conflict and which personality type one possesses in order to have an appropriate approach. According to the Thomas Kilmann styles of conflict management model there are four categories accommodator, competitor, avoider, and collaborator. This is a very important theory in leadership development because it highlights the different personality styles and how they approach conflict. Looking at the different conflict management styles’ advantages and disadvantages, there’s two that effectively work for the development of executive leaders, because they focus mostly on high concern for others. It is important for leadership teams to have their team’s wellbeing in mind at all times, there has to be a balance among leaders in having concern for others and concern for self. Having a healthy balance allows to push the company and team’s goals forward because they will be able to maintain their own and their team’s safety, development, and success.
Most recently we looked at another important topic that is exceedingly beneficial in shaping training and development for leadership and career planning. We discussed how important it is to align personal management goals with organizational values. In order to have that alignment exist, it is important to have a clear understanding and definition of both personal management goals and organizational values. Additionally, organizational values have a major impact on professional, this is due
to the fact that they can easily highlight company’s expectation of their workers, and in turn the workers
can work towards aligning their daily work and subsequent development with company expectations. This is reflected in an approach used by some organizations which aligns training initiatives to organizational needs. Lastly, during this course we also looked at emotional and social competence inventory (ESCI) as
an assessment tool that aids executive leaders in their own personal growth while simultaneously inspiring their workforce. ESCI is an important aspect of leadership development and training because it looks at qualities such as self-awareness, self-management, as well social awareness. These three components are important qualities to have as a leader because they allow one to look at situations from a point of empathy. Empathy allows leaders to put themselves in place of someone else. This lets leaders approach scenarios with little to know perceived biases and results in them arriving at an amicable solution which is fair for all.

New Management Challenges for the New Age
Today’s news is littered with scandals, new allegations of sexual assault, and tragedy. Since 2017 and the #metoo Movement, stemming from the Harvey Weinstein scandal, more and more public figures have been put into the spotlight to defend themselves against allegations from women around the globe.
Not only publically, but privately in companies around the world, there have been firings, and investigations into misconduct from co-workers, managers, and CEOs. It is a relevant topic that is getting long overdue publicity and encouraging more men and women to come forward to discuss openly rather than hide the events and injustices of the past. Other events showcase the tumultuous and on-edge society we are living in, such as the Charlottesville, VA attack, that left 1 dead and 19 injured when a person drove a car through a crowd of protestors during a white nationalist gathering.
With events on a daily business, it is important for…
