Refection of my time at Colorado Christian University When I started my first year at CCU I was working at a local hospital, with a passion for helping people and delivering babies. My job at the time offered a very great tuition reimbursement and I decided to go back to school and get a nursing degree. Right around the time I was supposed to apply for the nursing program my husband and I found out we were expecting our third baby. God knew that our hearts and home wasn’t complete, our little blessing
helped pave the way for me. I took a step back and realized I wanted to be home with my children and nursing, a very respected and wonderful career wasn’t for me. I work as a surgical assistant, and a sales degree is a benefit to my current job so I went for it. I changed majors and since then never looked back. Colorado Christian University has impacted my life in so many ways from bringing me back to church, to meeting new friends, reading the Bible with my children, changing the way I even function daily, to deepening my relationship with Christ. I moved to the States from Yugoslavia in 1997 at 11 years old, from a war I grew up in, a
civil war. I spent 6 years of my childhood hungry and in refugee camps. My relationship with God was there but slowly faded as my anger grew. I remember telling my dad “Why is God allowing us to be hungry?”. As I grew older, we didn’t attend church or even read the Bible, and even if my parents tried, I didn’t want much to do with it. I met my husband at 22, after getting married and starting a family I knew I needed to heal my relationship with God. I had to do it for my children. I needed to teach my children a way of life and I knew that God was calling me back. When I first started taking classes at CCU I was looking forward to “having to read the bible and my bible perspectives”. What I didn’t know at that time reading the Bible would change my life, and I started making peace with God. I started to understand sin, free will, human responsibility, the problems of evil and so much more. My first Bible class paved the way
for me I wrote a paper on the New Testament never forgetting what I wrote, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12, NIV). The meaning behind this to me is that the darkness could represent evil. And for me, there is no evil in God only greatness and light.
What I have gained from Colorado Christian University will always stay with me. I learned that my anger wasn’t with God, that humans are created equal in his image but are prone to sin. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, NIV). My perspective is so different now than it was when I first started going to school, I live by the word of God and teach my children the importance of Jesus Christ. Before attending CCU I didn’t feel a sense of purpose in the world, I was lost spiritually. I met some lifelong friends and joined a community of like-minded, supportive people at
my local church. CCU allowed me to learn new character developments like integrity, compassion, and leadership. To live by the word and not be afraid of life after death. I know if anything were to happen to me, I would be meeting Jesus with wide open arms. “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Out of all the knowledge I gained from attending CCU one that stands out the most is how to incorporate Christ and my beliefs into my work, into my business. I started a wellness company this year and it was only really from the confidence I gained from CCU. I now believe and know that with God by my side anything is possible. I live out my Christian faith in meaningful ways. Any decision that I make these days is guided by my principles and values as a
Christian.

“I used to work at NCB (National Commercial Bank). When I left NCB, I started my first loan company at the age of 24, a company called M24 Investments in Lucea, Hanover,” Kadeen Mairs reflected as he took a deep breath.
Mairs, previously worked as a loans officer at various branches of the NCB in rural Jamaica. “While I was working at the bank I would visit small businesses in need of loans, but because of the requirements to get these loans, a lot of the small businesses would not qualify to get the loan. But I could see the potential in these businesses and I realised there was a market for loans to informal businesses that are not structured enough to access credit from the bank,” he continued. “That was a big market so I decided to tap into that market starting small. I took a loan and on lend that money to small businesses.”
He said the seed funds for his company came through two loans totalling $4 million. “When I started out in Lucea, I used to give loans…

Sky is the owner of a small business called Sky's Skateboards. Sky, who grew up in a circle of avid boarders, started the business last year, initially adding cool designs to her siblings' and friends' skateboards. After a year of painting skateboards, Sky realized that her add-on design business was slowing down, but there was unmet local demand for custom designed skateboards. Many people had seen her designs and shown up at her doorstep looking for new skateboards for themselves, their kids, or their significant other.
Over the holiday season, Sky had done some research and found she could order quality skateboards in basic colours (black, white, blue, etc) for $50 each. She expects to sell boards for $100 each after designing them. If a customer wants to request a specific design, she will charge a premium and sell the skateboard for $125.
For the past year, Sky has customized used skateboards for $30 each (the…
