Amazon Case Study Questions:
Were Amazon’s acquisitions of digital media companies’ logical additions to their corporate?
I think this question is good because it is open-ended enough to have many cases that
could explain it. To mention a few points, one could argue that Amazon's digital media division
brought advantages by attracting more prime customers, contributed to diversifying their asset
portfolio, or operated synergistically with their device segment.
Why did Amazon’s device segment largely focus on the smart home market?
This question is important because it shows how customer data from products has
become more and more useful in the modern age. They stayed out of the smartphone game after
one failure which showed that they were either unwilling to compete or unwilling to expand. The
answer to this question should stress the importance of Alexa to Amazon’s marketing, operations,
and R&D.
What effect would self-driving technology have on Amazon’s corporate strategy triangle?
I think this question applies well to the course material we are currently studying. The
effect would primarily be on Amazon’s resources which, if implemented correctly, would also
effect their organization. The prospect of self-driving to a company like Amazon is so exciting
because there are few corporations with enough capital and need for self-driving cars as Amazon
does.

Even as Kraft has changed, so has the food processing industry. In the 1980s, Kraft and its competitors have realized that the recent and projected slow population growth in the United States means that most future gains in the market share must come at the expense of one another. As a result, the industry is being restructured through mergers and acquisitions as the major firms seek to strengthen their competitive positions. In order to remain at the top of the industry, Kraft’s top managers must make correct strategic decisions regarding the company’s product mix and the manner in which to structure the organization in order to best compete in the changing industry environment. Michael a. Miles was President and Chief Operating Officer of Kraft, Inc. in 1985. Kraft’s mission statement from that year is presented in Exhibit 2. Mr. Miles had publicly identified five strengths and three weaknesses of Kraft. The Five strengths and supporting reasons for them were as follows:
