SWOT Reflection
I personally chose to do the SWOT analysis interactive. The category that was most challenging for me
was the weaknesses. I was having a hard time differentiating the weaknesses and the threats as they
seem very similar to me in many ways. I learned that the weaknesses are things that our company and
products have directly while the threats are those that we cannot control from the outside. While
looking at the weaknesses, those are things that could possibly change internally like lack of experience.
This is something that may not be a weakness for long, as we do have control over it. I think marketers
tend to overlook the threats. Many marketers try to keep things positive and look at the strengths of
their product to market to their customers. I think looking at the threats they could use those to turn
around and turn the threats into something positive.
I think the first potential negative impact of failing
to consider the threats category is not being able to learn from your threats. Being able to take a threat
and figure out how to use it as a strength could be very impactful for a smaller company. The second
potential negative impact of failing to consider them is because they often get overlooked, they are not
using those areas to improve their own product. I think it is extremely important to fully understand your
threats and turn them as positive as possible.

How do I resolved this problem?
Mercury, Inc., produces cell phones at its plant in Texas. In recent years, the company’s market share has been eroded by stiff competition from overseas. Price and product quality are the two key areas in which companies compete in this market.
A year ago, the company’s cell phones had been ranked low in product quality in a consumer survey. Shocked by this result, Jorge Gomez, Mercury’s president, initiated an intense effort to improve product quality. Gomez set up a task force to implement a formal quality improvement program. Included on this task force were representatives from the Engineering, Marketing, Customer Service, Production, and Accounting departments. The broad representation was needed because Gomez believed that this was a companywide program and that all employees should share the responsibility for its success.
After the first meeting of the task force, Holly Elsoe, manager of the Marketing Department, asked John Tran,…
