Week 2 Discussion - Competitive Analysis
In this week’s Learn section, you watched a video about the importance of researching
competitors in your industry. A competitive analysis is a critical marketing plan element
and will be part of your Week 4 assignment. This discussion will allow you to start your
analysis and gather feedback from your classmates before including it in your first
assignment.
Determine two competitors for the product or service offered by your hypothetical
company.
●
Analyze the social media presence of each competitor (including platforms,
types of content, the number of followers, and their customer reviews,
including the company response).
●
Which elements of your competitor's social media presence are most
effective? Where could they improve?
●
How would you (as the owner of your hypothetical company) use this type of
analysis in your own social media marketing strategy?
○
Discuss your findings with your classmates and use the feedback
you receive to improve this portion of your competitive analysis
before including it in your Week 4 assignment.
Greetings all,
My hypothetical business, Divinely Tamed, offers natural hair care services and education. Two
competitors that I chose for Divinely Tamed are Queen Leora and Aivilo Hair Boutique. Both
brands offer hair care services and education, however, they both differ regarding marketing
strategy.
Leora is a 23-year-old from Birmingham, AL and
has a huge social media presence. She is
well known on various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. which has at least
500,00 followers per platform. She went viral early on in her career when she posted a video
called "Story Time" on TikTok, wherein she comically described her experiences as a Puerto
Rican child all the while styling a wig. Once her videos became viral, everyone could relate to
the lingo and well-known introductory line that distinguishes Queen Leora from everyone else.
Her postings as “queenleoraisback” deal with beauty supplies and tips from a melanated female
perspective. Her social media features hairstyle hacks, videos of clients, DIY, and tours of her
shop. She has also turned her social media popularity into a successful traveling seminar called
Queen Leora University, which travels to large cities. She demonstrates hair care, make-up and
fashion for attendees. This competitor is highly engaged with her audience on and off of social
media. She travels around the states and personally provides a hand on experience for her
audience to cherish and provides frequent content such as wig reviews, tour updates or the
legendary storytimes. Also she promotes other talented individuals' work to help build their
brand. For example, she shared her pregnancy journey online. Queen Leora would often glam
herself up for photoshoots and events. Anytime someone serviced her, she created content
reviewing the experience and providing their information for others to follow.
Aivilo Hair Boutique is owned by a local beautician in my area named Trashondra. Trashondra is
a beautician who specializes in all types of hair. She has a passion for the service she provides
and it is shown in her work. Trashondra has a smaller social media presence and clientele
compared to Queen Leora.
Aivilo Hair Boutique has a Facebook page but it truly does no
justice to how amazing her skills are. When it comes to content, Aivilo Hair Boutique is not as
active as it once was. She also moved her boutique from a salon suite, to a built on space in her
new home. For this reason, she has limited her clientele to those who have been regular
supporters of her throughout the years. In my opinion this allows for a more exclusive
experience because she is servicing those she has grown a bond with and therefore more
comfortable allowing them to her safe space. However, it also caps her potential for expansion.

Competitor analysis. The competitor analysis report is a detailed investigation into your close competitor(s) and your firm. Use the Competitor Analysis Report (Appendix) format to do an analysis of your firm's own competitive situation. Your grade includes a consideration of the thoroughness and usefulness of your graphics, but not the "fanciness." I really don't care if you do some graphs by hand, as long as they are neat and get the key point across. If any of the questions in the Competitor Analysis Format are not relevant, just give a brief sentence explaining why. (For example, if you have never competed in Private Label, you may just state briefly why you do not participate in private label and why you consider the trends in that market not relevant for your firm.) Remember that graphs are an excellent format for condensing complex information into a meaningful format. Be thoughtful about how to best highlight the points of interest for each component of the…

Need help writing a paragraph about an error Sam & Micaela are making with their market research
*article is below
Product Case Study
Sam and Micaela first met while studying marketing at San Juan College. Both were ambitious and had plans to run their own businesses. Over time they decided to start a business together. Initially they spent many months discussing what sort of business they should go into. They considered various service businesses, like consulting or an internet- based training offering. However, it was eventually an opportunity in the children’s toy market that appeared to have good potential.
They had observed that parents were becoming increasingly time-poor and, as a result, had
less time to spend with their children. And in order to compensate for this, the parents typically spent large amounts on their children to entertain them. Obvious examples were the success of PlayStations, iPads, PC’s, and mobile phones.
Sam argued, “these are big ticket items. The…

Assignment DescriptionThe purpose of this assignment is to have students relate to marketing from their everyday observations and interactions by making the connection between what they do in practice and the underlining marketing principle that is at work. Marketing is a not an abstract topic. It is very relatable practices that most people interact with at some time or another in the normal course of their daily lives. We are constantly being bombarded by many marketingmessages, programmes and activities. Whether we visit a store to make a purchase, browse the shopping mall/plaza to view the many products being offered by different merchants, turn on our TV or radio to view our favourite programme, we interact with several marketing activities. Some are subtle and we may not notice them, others are more overt and in “our face”. The way we interact with these marketing stimuli can ignite a chain of emotions that may eventually result in us buying or using a product or service to…
