GY 102 lab Question 1: What is the research question that you are seeking to answer in this lab?
What is the relationship between the discharge and drainage of certain points on the map?
Question 2: What are the independent and dependent variables?
Drainage is the independent variable and discharge is the dependent variable
Question 3: What applications and data did you use? How did you use them for this project?
I used google maps to locate the points on the map and to collect data about their gauge number, river name, drainage area, and discharge.
Question 4: What equations did you use to convert square miles into square kilometers? Cubic feet per second into cubic meters per second? Square miles into square kilometers = multiply the area value by 2.49
Cubic feet per second into cubic meters = multiply the volume/ time value by 35.315
Question 5: What relationship exists between the two variables? Why do you think this relationship exists? The relationship is negative because the trending is going downwards. I think this relationship is the way it is because the dependable valuable decreases as the independent variable increases. Question 6: What are some bigger impacts of your findings? What further questions or relationships can be explored? Bigger impacts of my findings would be how much drainage and discharge there actually is. Other relationships that can be explored is all the other data that you can get off of the USGS websites.
