Alt. School Age Game Requirements: 1. Write up a description of a game you have created for School Age children (age 6-12). It has to be an original idea, however it could be a twist on an existing game - Tic Tac Toe, Monopoly etc. Give as much description as you can about your game - include pictures if you like. (5) For my school age game, it will be a twist on a life-sized Snakes and Ladders board game. The game will have one dice and a giant matt of the game. The game will be played normally but each time you roll the dice, you have to add 2 to the number it lands on. If the dice lands on 4, you would add 2 and get 6 so you move up 6 blocks. If its 1, you do 1 + 2 = 3, therefore you move up 3 blocks. You keep going until one of the players has to go up a ladder, or land on a block with a snake and slide down, until one of you finishes and wins. 2. Name your game. Where did you come up with the idea for the game and the name? (2) The name of my game will be “Snakes, Ladders and Math”. I chose this name because of what the game itself is called and since were including addition, I thought the name I chose would fit. I came up with the idea when I was looking at all the different board games there are out there, I saw the life-sized snakes and ladders and knew I wanted to add a twist to that. 3. What age of school age children is this geared toward? Why? (2) This game will be geared more towards preschool children and first graders because they are able to do simple additions like 4 + 2 but might still finding challenging. It won’t be much of a challenge if it wore for an older age like 10 – 12, since they could easily do math like that. 4. What developmental area(s) - (PCCES) will this game support? Give concrete examples. (4)
This game will be able to support cognition (C4.8) and (C4.11) and physical (P5.1). The child is playing a mathematical game and will have to add up numbers together to get to the place they need to get too – C4.8 Each child will have to respect and understand the rules of the game which are, no turning over or sabotaging what the dice lands on, a player can’t trick another player into the wrong answer and more – C4.11 Because this game requires jumping and throwing, it will support gross motor skills – P5.1 5. What skills and abilities will children be able to practice while playing your game? Please give specific examples and link it back to our course content- either from the textbook or class MyCanvas notes. Be sure to site your sources (7) The children will be able to practice Number and Mathematics abilities. Children can also practice Spatial Thinking because after they get the number in which they have to jump, they can look at the matt and see where they will end up after jumping that number of blocks. While playing my game, children can utilize their math and team player skills. Children might also increase skills in problem-solving and critical thinking. Sites used for question 5. MheReaderUI .
