Final Paper Methodology Feedback [WLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4] Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 in your course textbook and the following resources: Effectiveness of Interventions to Promote Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents: Systematic Review of Controlled Trials Download Effectiveness of Interventions to Promote Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents: Systematic Review of Controlled Trials Branching Out: MeSH Vocabulary Links to an external site. To be of maximum benefit to your classmates, try to make both your initial and final posts early in this discussion. Before making your first post, be sure to review the required resources above. In the text of your initial post, state the health disparity topic for your final paper and describe your methodology for identifying appropriate intervention studies. This will allow you to compare your methodology to other classmates’ and obtain feedback. In your post, address the following: Identify at least three peer-reviewed studies that will be included in your review; thus, your search should have sensitivity (i.e., it is broad enough so that you do not miss any pertinent studies) and specificity (i.e., it is identifying relevant studies). o Good searches should use relevant MeSH terms. PubMed Subject Search: How It Works Links to an external site. , a video created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Library of Medicine, provides an overview of searching PubMed using medical subject headings (MeSHs) and demonstrates how to use database tools to retrieve relevant results. o Good searches should use relevant MeSH terms, and the MeSH terms chosen should appear in the title and abstract of the chosen article. o Search multiple databases (EBSCOhost, PubMed, Science Direct, etc.) relevant to your research question. o For a list of University of Arizona Global Campus Library recommended databases, please refer to this Public Health Databases link . Your final paper must include peer-reviewed evaluations of theoretical behavioral interventions or programs designed to reduce a chosen health disparity. Each study you choose must
o Include an intervention that addresses the underlying behavior affecting the health disparity. o Utilize a theoretical framework for the intervention. o Be published in a peer-reviewed journal. o Include a rigorous evaluation of the intervention to see if it was effective. TIP: This is typically in the results section of the article. o Have inclusion criteria that reflects these aspects and ensures that you get enough studies to include in your final paper. For example, one criterion would involve the population under study and how you define it. If you use African American men as an inclusion criterion, you could include all studies of this population regardless of age versus African American men ages 40 and over. Also, consider types of designs. You may want to include only those studies that implemented a randomized controlled trial versus an experimental design with no control group.
