Final Paper Methodology Feedback [WLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
[CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4]
Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 3 and Chapter

the methodology you chose for your Week 6 final paper. To be of maximum
benefit to your classmates, try to make both your initial and final posts early
in this discussion. Before making your first post, be sure to review the
required resources above.
In the text of your initial post, state the health disparity topic for your final
paper and describe your methodology for identifying appropriate
intervention studies. This will allow you to compare your methodology to
other classmates’ and obtain feedback. In your post, address the following:
Identify at least three peer-reviewed studies that will be included in
your review; thus, your search should have sensitivity (i.e., it is
broad enough so that you do not miss any pertinent studies) and
specificity (i.e., it is identifying relevant studies).
o
Good searches should use relevant MeSH terms.

, a
video created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
National Library of Medicine, provides an overview of
searching PubMed using medical subject headings (MeSHs)
and demonstrates how to use database tools to retrieve
relevant results.
o
Good searches should use relevant MeSH terms, and the
MeSH terms chosen should appear in the title and abstract
of the chosen article.
o
Search multiple databases (EBSCOhost, PubMed, Science
Direct, etc.) relevant to your research question.
o

.
Your final paper must include peer-reviewed evaluations of
theoretical behavioral interventions or programs designed to reduce
a chosen health disparity. Each study you choose must
o
Include an intervention that addresses the underlying
behavior affecting the health disparity.
o
Utilize a theoretical framework for the intervention.
o
Be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
o
Include a rigorous evaluation of the intervention to see if it
was effective. TIP: This is typically in the results section of
the article.
o
Have inclusion criteria that reflects these aspects and
ensures that you get enough studies to include in your
final paper.
For example, one criterion would involve the
population under study and how you define it. If
you use African American men as an inclusion
criterion, you could include all studies of this
population regardless of age versus African
American men ages 40 and over. Also, consider
types of designs. You may want to include only
those studies that implemented a randomized
controlled trial versus an experimental design
with no control group.

You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the Ti-6Al-4V…

Required information
Sometimes equations can be developed and practical problems solved by knowing nothing more than the dimensions of
the key parameters. For example, consider the heat loss through a window in a building. Window efficiency is rated in
terms of R value, which has the unit of ft2-hr-F/Btu. A certain manufacturer offers a double-pane window with R=2.5 and
also a triple-pane window with R=3.4. Both windows are 3.5 ft by 5 ft. On a given winter day, the temperature difference
between the inside and outside is 45°F.
Assume that a homeowner buys 20 such triple-pane windows for the house. A typical winter equals about 120 heating days at AT =
45°F. Each triple-pane window costs $85 more than a double-pane window. Ignoring interest and inflation, how many years will it take
the homeowner to make up the additional cost of the triple-pane windows from heating bill savings?

Questions
Finite Element Method (FEM) is a great tool to analytical engineering,
mostly in mechanical Engineering and Nondestructive testing applications;
Finite Element Method cannot exist without the model Data from
Computer Aided Draughting. The connection of Computer aided
Draughting (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) cannot be under
played in solving and making predictive analysis. Explain the following
school of thought using following set of questions:
• What is Finite Element Method? What is FEA? What is CAD?
• Explain the types of Analyses that can carried on FEA and CAD
1
when combined together
• How does CAD model data Affect FEA output?
• Where or which branch/part of Mechanical Engineering does FEM
best suit or most applicable and explain why
• FEA can further enhance the design or production of machine part ,
list and explain the parameter that can be optimized. Also Explain the
term design optimization.
• What are the benefits of FEA? What is the Demerit of FEA? In…
