1.
Why is it important for a PT to have a clear understanding of the equipment that they
operate?
Operating industrial equipment can be dangerous if not handled correctly, and a
process technician should be able to identify when a piece of equipment is
malfunctioning.
2.
Why is it important for a PT to make unit rounds?
Because it lets the PT monitor equipment, ensure safety compliance, gather data and
prevent issues.
3.
List four of the main responsibilities that the PT has?
-Maintaining a safe work environment
-Controlling equipment
-Monitoring equipment
-Troubleshooting equipment
4.
Define the following:
SOP: Standard Operation Procedure
SDS: Safety Data Sheet
PPM: Parts per million
LOTO: Lock Out Tag Out
5.
What is the purpose of Centrifugal Pumps?
To transport or circulate liquid.
6.
What is the purpose of a Gate Valve?
To isolate equipment, and for on/off control
7.
What are the four general types of heat exchangers?
-Double pipe
-Shell and tube
-Air-cooled
-Plate and frame
8.
What is a Process Flow Diagram (PFD)?
Is the representation of the route of the raw material around a process.
9.
What are Process and instrument drawings (P&IDs)?
Detailed visual representation of the relationship between piping equipment
instrumentation and flow.
10.
Explain how the Distillation process works.
The distillation process exploits the different boiling points of the components of a
mixture. As the mixture is introduced into the distillation tower, the heat from the boiler
initiates a transformation. This thermal energy prompts the more volatile elements to
ascend towards the upper reaches of the tower, separating from their fewer volatile
counterparts.

1. Design the equivalent pneumatic and electrical circuit with
complete labels.
2. Explain how the electrical circuit operates.
Problem 1:
It must be possible to operate the punching device from three sides. A
notch is to punched in the workpiece by a pneumatic cylinder. The
workpiece may be fed from any one of three work stations. The punching
operation is to be triggered when 2 sensors emit a signal. The signaling
elements a, b and c are installed for sensing. The cylinder returns to its
retracted position when the part is pulled out of the device

Root cause analysis (RCA) is a problem solving technique to find the actual cause of the
problems which usually lie underneath the visible symptoms. It requires thorough analysis
steps and investigation to find the actual cause. 5 WHY analysis is one of the commonly use
RCA technique. Complete the Table 2 using given possible causes listed below in correct
sequences.
Problem: The machine at the production suddenly stopped
The circuit was overloaded, causing the fuse to
blow.
Bearing locked up because insufficient
Jubrication
2 WHY the circuit overloaded?
3 WHY was the insufficient lubricant?
5 WHY is the pump clogged with metal?
The pump strainer was broken.
Solution :
WHY the machine stopped?
Hire new technician
WHY the pump circulate oils?
WHY technician did not perform inspection?
Pump in good condition
Replace a new strainer with correct size.
WHY the pump circulate less oil?
Pump clogged with metal shaving.
Pump not circulating enough oil
WHY the operator stopped the machine?
