Students
MUST
successfully select and use bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants and
adhesives before competency can be achieved for the practical component.
6.
Observable behaviors and answers to oral questions
MUST
be recorded on this
document.
7.
If reassessment is required, this must be done after further study and discussion with
the student.
Task/s

Observation
Criteria
for
Assessment Task
The assessment methods
MUST
be by direct observation of tasks on required skills and
knowledge to ensure correct interpretation and application. Your Assessor will observe you
on the following observations:
Obtain and read through job card to identify the correct vehicle or machinery system
or component to work on and discuss the vehicle or machinery system or
component required work with the customer or workplace supervisor.
Access and understand the correct workshop manual for the vehicle or machinery
system or component they are about to carry out the required work, including
finding the vehicle or machinery system or component correct remove and replacing
procedures and specifications for the bearings, the seals, the gaskets, and type of
sealants and adhesives.
Observe all safety requirements, wear correct PPE, completed job safety analysis
(JSA) and identify any hazards with working around the vehicle or machinery
system or componentbeing worked on and managed the risks by following
Workplace Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and following SDS for lubricants,
greases, sealants and adhesives.
Select the correct tools, equipment and materials for carrying out the required work
on the vehicle or machinery system or component, and checked that the tools,
equipment and materials are safe to use including checking sealants and adhesives
are in use by date.
Follow the manufactures workplace procedures, determine the correct vehicle or
machinery system or component sealants and adhesives from workshop manual for
the vehicle or machinery system or component they are about to work on such
as;hardening and non-hardening sealant and polymers adhesives types.
Follow the manufactures workplace procedures and specifications, workshop safe
work procedures, the sealants and adhesives safety data sheet (SDS) for
environmental requirements, and using the correct Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE), safely use the correct amount of sealant and adhesive to the vehicle or
machinery system or component and record the amounts of sealant and adhesive
used on the Job Card.
Follow the manufactures workplace procedures and specifications, workshop safe
work procedures, the sealants and adhesives safety data sheet (SDS), safely and
correctly stored the sealants and adhesives.
Follow the manufactures workplace procedures, workshop safe work procedures,
the lubricant for bearings, seals and gasketssafety data sheet (SDS), using the
correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), using the correct tools and
equipment and correct lubricant, pre-lubedbearings and seals, and if required,
applied adhesive to the gaskets.
Follow the manufactures workplace procedures and specifications, and used the
correct vehicle or machinery system or component workshop manual, using the
correct tools and equipment, correctly installed bearings, seals and gasketsand
adjusted the bearings (if required) and recorded fluids and parts used onto the Job
card.
Carry out a final inspection of the customers vehicle or machinery system or
component to ensure that the work completed are to the workplace standards, and
the vehicle or machinery system or component is clean, seat and floor cover
removed and ready to be given back to the customer.

Assessment
conditions
Competency is to be assessed in the simulated environment that accurately reflects
performance in a real workplace setting.
Assessment
MUST
include direct observation of tasks.
Where assessment of competency includes third-party evidence, individuals
MUST
provide
evidence that links them to the bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants and adhesives they have
selected and used, e.g., Repair orders.
Assessors
MUST
verify performance evidence through questioning on skills and knowledge
to ensure correct interpretation and application.
Assessors of this unit
MUST
satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational
education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
Resources required
The following resources
MUST
be made available:
Automotive simulated workplace
Workplace instructions
Manufacturer specifications relating to bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants and
adhesives
Vehicle or equipment requiring the application of bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants
and adhesives
Bearings, seals, gaskets, sealants and adhesives as specified in the performance
evidence
Tools, equipment and material appropriate for installing bearings, seals and
gaskets.
The students
MUST
be wearing the correct PPE.
This is to include:
Safety boots/shoes,
Protective clothing,
Safety glasses, and
Gloves as required
The students
MUST
have the practical assessment sheet and a pen to complete each task.
Results/Re-
assessment
Your Assessor will grade as either S – Satisfactory or NS – Not Satisfactory for the
assessment. In all cases your Assessor will provide you with feedback.
Only when all assessment tasks have been graded as S – Satisfactory you will be
deemed C – Competent in the final result of the unit of competency; if you do not
satisfactorily complete all the assessment tasks you will be deemed NYC – Not Yet
Competent.
If the evidence is graded as NS – Not Satisfactory you will be required to re-submit
the evidence. In this case, you will be provided with clear and constructive feedback
based on the assessment decision so that they can improve your skills / knowledge
prior to reassessment.
Where a ‘NS – Not Satisfactory’ judgement is made, you will be given guidance on
steps to take to improve your performance and provided the opportunity to resubmit
evidence to demonstrate competence. The assessor will determine and discuss the
reasons for NS – Not satisfactory on any of the criteria and will assess you through
a different method of assessment e.g. verbal/oral questioning, problem solving
exercises.
Reasonable
Assessor may adjust assessment conditions (vehicles, tools, analysis required) to suit

In the selection of manufacturing processes, the
