Lab 11: Choosing Power Supplies for PC Repair
Name: Tam Doan
Scenario: Two PCs have been brought to the help desk for repair, and it has been determined that the problem lies with the power supplies, which keep failing. Your task is to help choose the appropriate power supply units (PSUs) for both computers based on calculations and recommend suitable replacements.
Equipment:
PC system
Internet access
Submission Guidelines:
Submit your answers to the assignment and knowledge inventory questions in this assignment. Include the recommended replacement PSUs with their respective links.
Hints and Tips:
Consider factors such as efficiency, reliability, and customer reviews when selecting replacement PSUs.
Ensure that the replacement PSU has the necessary connectors for the PC's components.
If you encounter any difficulties or have questions, reach out to your instructor or colleagues for assistance.
Explore additional resources, such as manufacturer websites or forums, for further guidance on power supply selection and compatibility.
Be sure to pay attention to details like number of ram sticks, hdd vs sdd, etc.
Instructions:
Step 1: Assess the PCs
Examine PC 1 and PC 2 to gather the necessary information for power supply replacement.
PC 1: Gaming Beast
Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K
Motherboard: ATX
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080ti
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (
2 x 8GB
) DDR4 3200MHz
Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe SSD
Current Power Supply: DEFECTIVE – needs replaced
CF1 19
PC 2: Productivity Pro
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Motherboard: ATX
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (
2 x 16GB
) DDR4
Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB HDD
Current Power Supply: DEFECTIVE – needs replaced
Step 2: Power Supply Calculation
Open the power supply calculator using the following link: https://www.newegg.com/tools/power-supply-calculator/
Enter the specifications of the respective PC into the power supply calculator:
Once you have entered all the necessary information, the power supply calculator will provide a Recommended Minimum Power Supply Wattage for each system. Take a screenshot of each completed calculation and insert below.

David Aquino, engineering director, started out the day uptight. His young child
had the flu the night before, and he had been up all night to help. Upon arrival at his
office, David had to make urgent phone calls to approve a two-week overtime work plan
due to a plant fire the night before and to plan for a product committee meeting the next
day to counter environmental concerns about a wastewater treatment plant.
Then he spent 30 minutes reviewing the qualifications of new candidates and
decided on one. He asked for salary information and wanted to examine the offer before
it was sent. He asked for further justification for the budget requested by industrial
engineering for a minicomputer. Without reading it, he approved the research proposal
from material engineering. He rejected an invitation to speak at a regional meeting of the
Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers by giving an untrue reason.
David made a note for the…

1. Your spendthrift cousin wants to buy a fancy watch for $425. Instead, you suggest that
she buy an inexpensive watch for $25 and save the difference of $400. Your cousin
agrees with your idea and invests $400 for 40 years in an account earning 9% interest per
year. How much will she accumulate in this account after 40 years have passed?

Project 2: In company that designs road cars and heavy trucks, it important to make the proper selection of the engines. Your part as a system energy engineer is to make a proper selection between an engine operates on Otto cycle/gasoline engine or Diesel cycle/diesel engine. Your head of department asked you to provide a detailed technical report that shows your selection for engine to be used with heavy truck vehicle. This is best achieved by performing the following tasks: Section.1:
1. Which engine does operate at lower ??? and has higher air-fuel mass ratio?
2. Which engine does burn fuel more completely?
3. Which engine has lower fuel cost?
4. Explain what compression ratio for Otto and Diesel cycles means
5. Explain what cut-off ratio for Diesel cycles means
6. Explain the limitations of SI engines in terms of their ability to operate at much higher compression ratios. What is this limitation called?

Task 2
The transfer of heat from one fluid to another is an essential component of all chemical processes.
Whether it is to cool down a chemical after it has been formed during an exothermic reaction, or
to heat components before starting a reaction to make a final product, the thermal processing
operation is core to the chemical process. It is essential that heat transfer systems for chemical
processes are designed to maximize efficiency. Because the heat transfer step in many chemical
processes is energy intensive, a failure to focus on efficiency can drive up costs unnecessarily.
Task expected from student:
a) Compare the basic design between the classifications of heat exchanger equipment's (Any
three HE equipment's).
b) Summarize the merits, demerits, limitations and applications of heat exchanger equipment's
with neat sketch.

As an engineer responsible for monitoring works in the area of mechanical systems, you must evaluate the following situation: a large client in the retail area has a refrigeration system where it stores some chilled or frozen products to be sold on the sales floor.Recently, the customer's maintenance department has been questioning the system's performance and requested an evaluation of the system's behavior. You went to the location and requested some information from the maintenance manager about the system, who provided the following data: - The system operates with R-134a refrigerant;- The refrigerated environment is maintained at 0°C and the external environment at 26°C;- The refrigerant flow rate in the system is 0.08 kg/s; In addition to the data provided, you carried out some tests and measured the temperature of the refrigerant fluid at some specific points in the system, such as the compressor inlet and condenser outlet, finding values of 0°C and 26°C respectively.…
