MMET 206 Lab Report No.7 Tensile Testing of Composites Oda Kristine Borgstroem Section #503 11/9/2022
Introduction / Purpose: In this lab we will be testing the tensile strength of the laminate composites made in lab six. As mentioned in lab two, it is important to understand the mechanical properties of materials and learn how to obtain them. The focus on this lab will be testing commonly used fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite materials. The results from the tensile testing will be analyzed and then the mechanical properties of ceramics, polymers and composites will be compared. Approach / Method: In this lab we are going to test the mechanical properties of the composites laminates made in lab six. When you are testing for tensile strength, you are testing for the modulus of elasticity, yield strength, precent of elongation and toughness. To test the composites laminates, you take the samples and place it in between the heads and tighten them so that they are unable to slip from the heads. Once we turn on the machine, the measurements recorded here is the elongation and the force applied to the material. Data / Results: Tensile Test of Kevlar
