ELM-250 Kimberly Chavez Classroom Arrangements and Cooperative Learning Rationale: When you walk inside my classroom there will be five bins labeled Monday- Friday where the students will find assignments that they may have missed during the week. I will also have a bin for homework and a bin for late work. On the top of the cubbies I will have a list of procedures, rules, and consequences. The students will be seated in their assigned seats. The desks are arranged in pairs to encourage Collaborative Learning. A smart board is located at the front of the classroom and will be used for whole group instructions and Interactive presentations. Next to that is a white board where I have the learning objective that the students will repeat out loud at the beginning of the class. When students are given an assignment I will have the students with special learning needs come up to my desk and work with me on the assignment. My classroom will be divided into color coded groups that support their learning
needs. By the end of the week the goal is for each group to visit each Center at least once. The library will help them Independently read at their grade level. The art Center is a creative space where the students can get supplies for classwork, and create art based on the weekly lesson. In my classroom there will be a cart with computers that are assigned to each student that they are responsible for. These laptops are only going to be accessed during the designated time or when having a whole group collaboration time. It is very important that the students plug in their computer once they are done using it. The last station is the Game Center where this center offers educational games and challenging puzzles to help the students' learning goals. The goal of this classroom arrangement is to minimize distraction by maximizing interest and engagement with the learning activity.
