As I look into the case study problem I had already selected, I take the professional role of a curriculum coordinator. My degree path is PhD and my specialization is technology. I believe this problem has everything to do with training. Teachers need to know what is expected of them and need clear and concise curriculum maps that will guide them towards timely coverage of all benchmarks assessed in the state’s assessments for Common Core. By providing teachers with a better plan, students will feel more prepared towards the test. Just as in California, I would also implement trainings to focus on how to bridge instruction towards Common Core (Maxwell, Language Demands, 2014). I would also look into implementing an hour of collaboration daily for teachers that share the same subject matter to join in and prepare for upcoming days and benchmarks. This was reportedly implemented at Emerson Elementary in New Mexico with great success (Maxwell, N.M. School, 2012). Before any of this implementation can occur, as the curriculum coordinator, I will have to contact the appropriate departments to ensure that the budget permits for such a large implementation. One thing that we can’t exceed is budget therefore a possible restructure of departments and/or a new allocation of funds need to be discussed. References Maxwell, L. (2012, April 25).
