Prompt: Explain how you think this course can help you in your future career. As I am a Food Science major, this course heavily involves many scientific principles that will be important within any of my work in the food science industry, even if I am not directly doing the related work. Food science is a very broad field with many applications, so I have not yet decided what specifically I would like to go into. Overall, this course has given me an introduction to much machinery and how many processes used in food processing methods are utilized, which will give me a higher understanding and better ability to do my job no matter what department I choose to go to, whether it be the far away sensory science or the very integrated process engineering. This summer I am working as a Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory intern at Cargill in Dayton, Ohio for corn milling. In this position, I imagine I will be able to use much of what I've learned about different processes especially when focusing on critical control points. After graduation, I am very interested in working in the fermentation industry which involves many mechanical processes relating to course concepts like mass and energy balance, heat transfer, gasses and vapors, as well as drying.
