METHOD
:
Set-Up
:
1.
BIOPAC Student LAB 4.1 Software was downloaded
2.
The computer was turned on.
3.
The leads were plugged into the BIOPAC device
4.
The USB end was plugged into the computer
5.
The skin was cleaned.
6.
Each electrode was attached to the forearm as shown in Figure 1
7.
The electrode leads were clipped to the subject as based on color to the specific location shown in Figure 1.
8.
The subject was seated in position facing the monitor
9.
The BIOPAC device was turned on and set to the forearm symbol
10.
The BIOPAC Student lab 4.1 software was started and United States (60HZ) was
selected as the correct frequency.
11.
A unique file was created and data was saved in an excel worksheet.
Calibration
:
12.
Press and hold on the BIOPAC device was pressed and held to perform calibration.
13.
Once calibration was completed, recording started.
14.
It was verified that recording resembled the example data.
Collection of Data
1.
Preparation of the dominant arm recording:
a.
The electrode was attached to the subject’s dominant arm.
b.
The subject was relaxed.
2.
Recording:
a.
A series of clenches were performed. Two seconds after the recording began, the fist was clenched as hard as possible for 4 seconds, then released. There were 2 seconds rest and then the fist was clenched again for 4 seconds as hard as possible.
3.
This was repeated for a total of 10 cycles continuously (total of 1 minute test).
4.
Suspend was clicked.
5.
The recording was checked for all 10 cycles.
6.
Steps 2 to 5 were repeated for non-dominant arms.
7.
Steps 2-7 were done for two males where their height was >12” different and then for two females where their height was 12” different.
