Discussion Forum Unit 1 In the year 2020, my husband started having headaches constantly, at first, he took a medicine for headaches, and he felt better, then these medicines no longer had any effect, so he went to the doctor to find out what was happening with him. He did some exams, and in those exams, nothing came up. The doctor gave him some headache medication. After that, my husband started to feel ringing in his ears, and sometimes he couldn't hear what other people were saying, he went back to the doctor and had a series of tests, but there was no diagnosis. My husband is a nurse and he started studying about it, so he could help himself as he couldn't find answers in the hospital, and exactly he watched the Ted Talk speech by Dr. Rishi Manchanda, in which he talks about the experience he had with a patient in which she had constant headaches and after several tests without answers, he ended up discovering that the cause of the lady experiencing those symptoms was because she lived in an environment with mold, and water leaks (Manchanda, 2014). So, we knew that he might have the same problem that the lady in the story told by Dr. Manchanda had, and since our house also had mold, and we didn't have windows that provided ventilation into the house, so we did a renovation on our house. We change the walls, floors, windows, etc., and after these changes my husband also started to feel better, and today he no longer has headaches or ringing in his ears. According to Ogden, J. (2019) the biopsychosocial model developed by Engel (1977) is divided into three categories: bio, psycho and social, and bringing this to my story, I can say that in relation to Bio, I can mention mold and the lack of ventilation and with that, bacteria and fungi were causing this constant headache. As for Psycho, my husband often believed that he could have something more serious than a simple headache, and I believe that somehow triggered more headache, and more stress for himself. And finally, regarding the social factor, it often affected not only his work, but he also had problems concentrating to do simple things at school, at church and somehow this affected his social life and the people around him. Fortunately, we managed to find the answers we were looking for. I believe that the biopsychosocial model developed by Engel (1977) is a complete model that addresses all areas of the individual's life to reach a conclusion on a problem that is occurring, and that if we know how to correctly use this model in our lives, we can avoid many of these problems, and we can find answers to our questions even before we turn to medicine to try to solve them. What do you think of the biopsychosocial model? References Ogden, J. (2019).   The psychology of health and illness: An open access course . The psychology of health and illness.pdf
