Poiseuille's law describes the resistance to fluid flow through a tube, which has been applied to blood vessels in medicine. It states that the vessel resistance is proportional to the length of the vessel and the viscosity of the blood (Batterham, 2018). When a vessel's resistance increases, blood flow decreases. Ohm's Law explains how current moves through a material when various voltage levels are applied. Ohm’s law and Poiseuille’s law are imperfect approximations of pulmonary vascular resistance (Widri ch & Shetty, 2022). HDL cholesterol levels are generally inversely correlated with the risk for the development of atherosclerosis. Low levels of HDL-C are associated with an increased risk of CVD, which also plays a role in pathways involved in atherosclerosis (Casula et al., 2021). One important note for how HDL lessens the burden of atherosclerosis is reverse cholesterol transport. The purpose of reverse cholesterol transport is to characterize the metabolic processes involved in the removal of extra cholesterol from the body. The accumulation of lipids, cholesterol, and other chemicals in and on the arterial walls which is considered plaque is known as atherosclerosis (Pahwa & Jialal, 2022). Cardiovascular disorders are known to be mostly caused by atherosclerosis. The most frequent risk factors are high cholesterol, hypertension, smoking, obesity, and eating a lot of saturated fats. Atherosclerosis reduces blood flow and reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients that reach the body. HDL is also known as the “good” cholesterol. This helps remove any cholesterol from arteries (Cholesterol levels: What you need to know, 2020). The normal HDL level is 50 or higher and this patient has a lab value of 79. Her LDL level is 250 which is above the normal limit of less than 100. LDL which is also known as “bad” cholesterol is the main source of cholesterol buildup in the arteries (Cholesterol levels: What you need to know, 2020). Triglycerides are a type of fat that is found in the blood. A normal triglyceride level is 150. This patient has a level of 210. With the increased LDL and triglyceride levels, this patient is at risk for stroke and heart disease. Exercise and a healthy diet should be encouraged to decrease her lab levels.
