is an organization that
includes Stanford Medicine, its school of medicine and research arm
affiliated with Stanford University, Stanford Hospital, Lucille Packard
Children’s Hospital, the Stanford South Bay Cancer Center, and
multiple primary care offices and clinics throughout the greater Bay
Area. The Vision of Stanford Healthcare is “healing humanity
through science and compassion, one patient at a time.”
S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
As a healthcare system on the leading edge of research and
innovation, Stanford is deeply committed to implementing
evidence-based practices. This is evident by the creation of
the

(S.C.I.E.N.C.E.), which
resides within their Professional Practice and Clinical Improvement
Department and provides support for the implementation of
evidence-based practices throughout the organization (Stanford
Health Care, n. d.).
Furthermore, Stanford’s professional practice model is called the
Stanford Evidence-Based Pratice Model, and is displayed below. EBP
is at the very heart of the model, and is derived from ongoing
research and quality improvement initiatives. Feeding into this core
are four departments which collaborate to further both the use and
generation of evidence: Practice, Education, Excellence, and
Research. Finally, the outer ring represents the various factors that
affect or are affected by nursing practice and EBP (Stanford, n. d.).

by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center (ANCC), an achievement attained by only 8%
of all hospitals nationwide. Only hospitals that achieve high
benchmarks of performance and incorporate Magnet Model values
into their organization receive this designation. An essential
element of these Magnet values is that the organization must apply
new and existing knowledge and evidence. They must incorporate it
into their models of care, nursing practice, and professional
development structure (ANCC, n. d.).
One of the ways Stanford has done so has been by creating

, a
year-long educational program for nursing staff to learn the
principles of EBP, with the goal of initiating projects led by nurses to
implement best practices.
Another example of the promotion of EBP among professional staff
is the creation of the

(FON) scholarship, which awards nursing grants to Stanford
employees for evidence based practice projects and educational
initiatives.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Stanford Health Care is a large, many-faceted
organization that is on the forefront of research and innovation, and
is committed to not only utilizing evidence to inform their nursing
