The prison system typically creates austere environments that are dehumanizing, punitive, and hopeless. This discussion post asserts that everyone needs an outlet, including offenders. According to Reddon and Durante (2019), recreational activities in prison have proven to boost the self-esteem of inmates, which is a psychological benefit. Additionally, extracurricular activities can positively occupy prisoners’ time (Reddon & Durante, 2019). Recreation will ultimately result in better familial relationships, more outlets for letting out negative energy, and improved leadership skills (Reddon & Durante, 2019). The importance of recreational activities in prison cannot be over-emphasized. Since teaching is crucial in acquiring information and developing knowledge, it is unsurprising that the Bible has much to say about teaching. Teaching is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit ( English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Romans 12:6-7 ). In this context, teaching refers to the God- given ability to explain God’s Word; the teacher has the supernatural ability to instruct and communicate knowledge clearly, specifically the doctrines of the faith and truths of the Bible (English Standard Version Bible, 2001, 1 Corinthians 12:27-29 ).
