1. Why did Judah tell his son Onan to have intercourse with Onan’s brother’s wife?
Judah told Onan to have intercourse with Onan’s brother’s wife to continue on the bloodline because Judah’s offspring were wicked in the lord's sight.
2. What did Onan do each time that he had intercourse with his brother’s wife? Why did Onan do what he did?
Onan did not complete the job when he had intercourse with his brother's wife instead he spilled his semen on the ground. He did this because he knew the child would not be
his.

He did not continue his brother's bloodline which was illegal at the time.

Jesus’ attitude toward the law is that it is important to follow the law and he states that those who do not follow the law will be called last to heaven. The spirit is most important
because the lord created all things including the law so arguably the spirit is the most important.

The New Jerome Biblical commentary states, divorce is adultery. Whoever divorces his wife forces her to commit adultery and if you marry a divorced woman you are committing adultery unless the marriage was unlawful.
