W06 Assignment: President Eyring Readings Simone Bagni Our Constant Companion – General Conference October 2023 What such a marvelous message in this talk President Eyring gave us. He has been telling us not only as an apostle but like a loving, father, grandfather, great grandfather, wanting to let a really important message to all of us, as he would be our family member. Such a great loving spirit, like God would have been talking to all of us as His children. I love him talking about the story of Nephi, being guided by the Spirit “minute by minute” as he said, not knowing beforehand what he should have been doing. I love when he is inviting us to follow President Nelson’s invitation to find opportunity to review our lives and repent when necessary. Then he said :” If you find yourself having difficulty in feeling the Holy Ghost, you might ponder whether there is anything for which you might repent and receive forgiveness.8 You can pray with faith to know what to do to be cleansed and thus more nearly qualify for that constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. If you want to receive the companionship of the Holy Ghost, you must want it for the right reasons. Your purposes must be the Lord’s purposes. If your motives are too selfish, you will find it difficult to receive and sense the promptings of the Spirit.” We need to look for the companionship of the Holy Ghost for the right reason in order to show our sincere love to our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ. I know these things are true and if we strive to do our best, we will be blessed with the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. (Words: 278) Finding personal peace – General Conference April 2023 I love this talk because here he is clearly inviting us to be honest with ourselves and recognize the reasons why sometimes we do not have personal peace in our lives. He is suggesting five steps in order to evaluate ourselves but one that I particularly like is the number four when he said: “Fourth, keeping the Lord’s commandments requires more than obedience. We are to love God with all our heart, might, mind, and soul. Those who do not love Him do not keep His commandments. And so, they will not have the gift of peace in this life and in the world to come.” What such an eternal truth. When I was on my mission, I was always trying to teach that obedience is not a mathematic law like, if you are obedient, you will receive blessings. Sometimes you may be obedient but you do not receive immediately the blessings you are looking for and other times you are not really obedient but He still bless you with all you need. Here President Eyring is telling us that Obedience is not the mathematic formula about obeying some rules but showing love to God with all our Heart, might, mind and soul. If we are obeying to God only because we are thinking to the blessings we want to receive, that is not sincere obedience and we do not fully progress. Once we understand that we need to obey because we
want to show God and Our Savior Jesus Christ that we truly and fully love them, that is the moment we will find personal peace in our lives. (Words: 270) Legacy of Encouragement – General Conference October 2022 This talk is such a great message of encouragement toward all the people that are struggling and trying to find the iron road to keep moving in this difficult world. I like that he is using the analogy of Mormon encouraging his son Moroni and his people to move forward with faith. President Eyring commenting some verses in Moroni chapter 7th said: “Mormon saw meekness as evidence of the strength of their faith. He saw that they felt dependent on the Savior. He encouraged them by noting that faith. Mormon continued giving them encouragement by helping them see that their faith and meekness would build their assurance and their confidence of success in their struggle”. In the world today meekness and humility are considered signs of weakness but we need to invite the people to stop thinking in this way. We must invite the people around us to think that we need to develop stronger faith in Our Savior Jesus Christ and act upon our increasing faith because we can surely perform miracles for us and the people around us in need of our help and support. We are call to be the salt of the earth, like describe in the scriptures and because our testimonies, we need to encourage the world to move forward in these latter-days in order to be ready and be found faithful in order to receive again on earth our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ. We need to be positively engaged as the sons of Mosiah (Mosiah 28:3):” Now they were desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for they could not bear that any human soul should perish; yea, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment did cause them to quake and tremble.” (Words: 295) A Child and a Disciple – General Conference April 2003 I decide to comment this talk because it has such a special place in my earth during my mission in London England between 2005 and 2007. In this talk I can feel such a great Spirit each time I read it even after years and years. I cry all the times I read it or hear it. I love some of his quotes in this talk:” There is no single pattern in what they do. There is no common technique. Some always carry a Book of Mormon to give away. Others set a date to find someone for the missionaries to teach. Another has found questions which draw out feelings about what matters most in life to a person. Each has prayed to know what to do. They each seem to get a different answer, suited especially to them and to the people they meet.” Such a great truth, there is not a common technique to share the restored gospel but praying to the Father asking to guide us to find prepared people. Then he said:” Those who speak easily and often of the restored gospel prize what it has meant to them. They think of that great blessing often. It is the memory of the gift they have received which makes them eager for others to receive it.” “Your worthiness and
