Aesthetics, metaphysics, and epistemology are some of the fields of philosophy. In this regard, I'd like to delve deeper into the field of epistemology. Epistemology is known to be closely related to both philosophy and cognitive science. It is fundamental to philosophical inquiry because it seeks to answer the question of what knowledge is and to develop coherent frameworks for biological explanation. It investigates the complex relationship between reality and the mind, as well as how we acquire, justify, and comprehend our beliefs about the natural world around us. One example that I believe could be applied to genome editing is the alter enzyme we create for editing; how do we know it actually works? Applying epistemology, scientists will ask questions, observe, and conduct experiments to gain knowledge. Experiments need to be performed in a properly constructed manner. Personally, I prefer empiricism to rationalism because I feel rationalism is somewhat subjective. Empiricism, on the other hand, develops theory based on practical experiences and observations. In other words, rationalism is based solely on conjecture and has blind faith in it, whereas empiricism is based on sensory experience and thus has more trust. There are currently far too many errors in the view of rationalism that have been and continue to be discovered. I believe that beliefs and genuine information about the world must be acquired by a posteriori in order to be perceived.
