DQ 2 Valerie’s Response
After reading the GCU doctrinal statement which states the Christian beliefs of the institution and the Christian Identity and Heritage outlining how faith is built into the university experience, an education from GCU is far different than one from a non-faith-based university. Service and faith are key themes entwined throughout every aspect of college life from organizations on campus, to outreach programs both locally and globally, to the individual courses we take. A non-faith-based university places academics as the priority and faith and service may find their way into the picture if a student searches for or happens upon them. With GCU providing a different perspective, I feel students will build a sense of belonging and purpose not only with the institution, but with their peers and instructors. Being a student working solely online, the tendency to feel alone and not part of the identity of the university could be an issue to address, but that is where GCU is different. Because the mission of the university is to empower individuals through faith and service, I know that I am
not alone and that I am part of the CGU identity. Reference
