Each student will create a personal Coaching Philosophy Handbook (due on December 6th) 1. Briefly identify your sport experience and describe your background within the sport as an athlete/participant and if applicable as a coach. 5 marks 2. Briefly identify your level of coaching experience/or leadership and, if applicable, your current formal NCCP certification level. 5 marks 3. Identify 3 of your personality strengths and discuss how you think they will make you an excellent coach – consider what you want to teach your athletes. Reflect on the “Develop your Sport Coaching Philosophy” Assignment and use the information here. b. Identify 3 of your personality weaknesses and how they will challenge you to be an excellent coach. c. Identify 2 of your blind spots and how you will reflect on them as a coach/leader. 25 marks 4. Select one of the knowledge base areas (identified below) that describes you the best ; based on 3 MBTI’s strengths, discuss why you think that you bring this knowledge to coaching and this knowledge will help you be successful; C onsider your formal/non-formal, and informal education as discussed above in #2. a. Professional Sport Coaching knowledge – based on NCCP certification – coaching background b. Interpersonal knowledge – based on how well you connect with others/you are a great coach/leader c. Intrapersonal knowledge – based on continued informal learning and self-reflection – other athletic and non-athletic background – offer great non sport knowledge to your athletes/team Consider how KIN 345 is contributing to your “Learning/education”. As well, consider the Mindset training lecture info and how it can contribute to your coaching/leadership success and use the information here. 15 marks 5. Select one of the coaching context areas ; based on 3 MBTI strengths and your background; discuss why you think you will be successful in this context – reflect on your strength to develop a program and create a “Respectful Inclusive Culture” for your team. C onsider your coaching/leadership experience/background a. Participation sport – sampling/youth/adult b. Performance sport – emerging, performance, specialization/investment or high performance 15 marks 6. Select one of the coaching domains ; based on 3 MBTI strengths and your background discuss why you think you will be successful in this domain. Ensure it relates to your context selections above a. Participation coach for children (sampling – specify age group 2-3 years spread – (6-8/9-10/11-12) b. Participation coach for adolescents (recreation-participation) – (13-15) c. Participation coach for adults (recreation-participation) – (16 and over) d. Performance coach emerging athletes (developmental – from sampling to specialization – (10-12) e.
