I have decided to my research on Eastern Ethics and Natural Law. Buddhism is one of the Eastern ethical I have read up on. Buddhism is a philosophy and religion that has spread throughout Asia since its inception in India. According to Buddhism, nirvana—a state of emancipation from pain and ignorance—is the ultimate purpose of human life. The Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of eight facets of moral and spiritual practice, must be followed in order to reach nirvana. These facets are: right perspective, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Based on these comparisons, I believe that Buddhism has greater moral roots and ramifications than Aristotle's virtue theory. Buddhism is founded on a realistic observation of human condition and experience, rather than a dubious assumption about human nature or function. Buddhist morality is also more comprehensive and humanitarian than Aristotle's virtue theory, which appears to be constrained by its cultural and historical setting. Because it gives a clear and thorough direction for ethical and spiritual practice in the Noble Eightfold Path, I believe Buddhism may assist a person construct a strategy that produces more ethically acceptable behavior than Aristotle's virtue theory. It also supports the development
of knowledge and compassion, both of which are necessary for moral decision-making and action. In terms of their similarities and contrasts, Buddhism and Aristotle's virtue theory can be contrasted. Both ideologies place a high value on moral behavior and the development of virtue. Both methods also take into account the fact that people have a predisposition to seek out enjoyment and shun pain. However, they also differ significantly in certain important ways. Buddhism and Aristotle's virtue theory are different in that Buddhism offers a broader, more compassionate perspective. The happiness and welfare of the individual and the political group to which he or she belongs are the fundamental topics of Aristotle's virtue theory. Aristotle also makes distinctions between various types of persons based on their moral and intellectual prowess, and then assigns them various responsibilities and virtues in accordance. He contends, for instance, that barbarians, slaves, and women are inferior to free men and citizens by nature and are unable to achieve the maximum level of happiness that entails logical effort. Buddhism, on the other hand, makes no such divisions or distinctions between people. Buddhism believes that all sentient beings, regardless of gender, color, class, or rank, have the
ability to achieve nirvana. Buddhism's moral concern extends to all living beings, not just humans. Buddhists practice nonviolence and compassion for all living things, and they do not kill or damage them.
