Question
Answer
1.
"In sports, it doesn’t matter if you win." Do you strongly disagree, disagree, agree, or strongly agree with
this statement?
2.
Team sports are characterized both by cooperation and competition. Which aspect do you think is more important? Which is more motivating? Why? How 1)
I disagree with this statement because most sports now always have a prize associated with it whether its money or an award that someone can hold, winning it what makes
the sport fun.
2)
I think cooperation is more important towards playing sports being able to have teammates that cooperate and
might a person’s family, culture, or background cause him or her to feel differently?
paying attention towards certain commands/call outs on the field or court, can really help towards a team winning. Competition in a sport is more motivating however since competing lets players have more fun and they can really play how they truly want to. A person’s family, culture, or background can cause a person to feel differently towards a sport since some families may prohibit their kids from playing due to it being too dangerous or they don’t like watching/playing the sport.

Read and Annotate the Story (posted in Unit 2 Stories in Canvas under Modules)
Some people argue that winning in sports promotes winning in life. According to studies, most of the adult’s state that winning is a motivating factor in their participation in sports. This is because winning takes passion, persistence, and single-minded devotion- values that are useful on and off the field. By maintaining a winning attitude, people can push themselves to achieve difficult goals, and their accomplishments reinforce their confidence. In fact, a recent poll of middle school girls showed participation in sports made it more likely that they are "happy the way they are." However, others argue that it is participation, not winning, that is truly important,
because playing sports helps build mental stamina, and being a part of a team creates a sense of community. Sports are important because they unify fans and players alike, and games bring people together.

1. Why does the Point author believe that winning is valuable? What evidence or data does the author use to support his or her claim? Cite specific evidence from the text to support your answer. 2. What does the author of the Counterpoint essay believe about the importance of social interaction in sports? Why does the author believe this? Explain, citing text evidence. 3. What is the one way the authors agree that sports benefit a person's mental well-being, regardless of whether one wins or loses a game? Cite evidence from the text to support your answer.
Winning is very important when It comes to pretty much everything. With it’s not the entire point and teamwork and building connections is just as important. It’s very musk so gray area but to say that one is more important than the other is completely missing the point. The authors from the Point claimed that winning is extremely important while on
the opposite side the Counterpoint claims that there are more important things in sports than winning. Though they can find some middle ground which is that it can help a person’s mental health whether one wins or losses. Winning
is an important factor when it comes to carriers for it can make or break your entire life whether that be for money and reputation. In the article “Winning: Is It Everything?” it
states “If professional athletes don’t perform well and lose
more than they win, their contracts may not be renewed, or they may be traded. Furthermore, the amount of money professional athletes earn is directly tied to winning.” Winning has a huge impact on players income however as the expression goes money can’t buy happiness. But something that can is being able to make friends and share great bonding experiences with your teammates. In the article “Counterpoint: Sports offer valuable lessons beyond just winning and losing.” It states “One of the most apparent benefits of sports is how it fosters teamwork among a group of individuals. During practices, players interact with teammates by participating in drills, running plays, and discussing strategies for how to challenge opponents. These team-building activities cultivate trust between players.” Only focusing on winning whilst playing
sports is missing huge opportunities for friendships and great memories to come out of it. In conclusion they both go hand in hand, one can’t go on without the other and to sole rely on one of them is missing the point of what sports are supposed to be and what they can do for people. Exit Ticket

First, distinguish your claim from those of the Point and Counterpoint writers by describing how it relates to each. Does your claim agree more with the Point claim, agree more with the Counterpoint claim, or
take a middle-ground approach? After distinguishing your claim, incorporate support for it in the form of strong reasoning and evidence. Your argument should be based on valid inferences drawn from your own personal experiences and from relevant evidence offered in “Winning: Is It Everything?”
