Beneficence and Nonmaleficence: This is has to do with avoiding situations that could potentially put the client in a harmful situation. Dr. Karry put Erica in a harmful situation because through him giving all the extra attention she began to feel that the extra attention was hurting her more then being helpful. Fidelity and Responsibility: This has to do with trusting other colleagues in the profession and having certain standards that are followed within the profession The ethics committee that Dr. Karry reported to questioned his mental stability Integrity: This has to deal with honesty and being truthful Dr. Karry accused Erica of plagiarism and then admitted that he wrote the paper for her Justice: This has to deal with fairness and honesty It was not fair that Dr. Karry wrote the paper for Erica and submitted it. Erica did not have to submit that paper. It is not fair that the other students did not have that advantage Respect for People’s Rights and Dignity: within this principle is the right to privacy and confidentiality and being aware of the various cultural or gender differences that may arise Ethical Standards Resolving Ethical Issues: This involves issues such as reporting ethical violations,dealing
with ethics committees,conflicts that occur between ethics/laws and legal authority,and improper complaints Dr. Karry reported Erica to the ethics committee for plagiarism. Competence: This involves boundaries,how to handle emergency situations, and personal problem conflicts Dr Karry and Erica did not set any boundaries to determine what was too much and there were boundaries that were crossed. Dr Karry had his personal emotions involved which lead him to reporting Erica Human Relations: This involves harassment(sexual and other), multiple relationships,third party services, informed consent, cooperation with other professionals,conflicts of interest Erica began to feel uncomfortable with the extra attention and requested a transfer. Dr Karry said there was no romantic interactions between the two Privacy and Confidentiality: this involves maintaining and discussing the limits of confidentiality,and disclosures Advertising and Other Public Statements: this involves not using false or deceiving statements,media presentations,statements provided by other people, and media presentations Record Keeping and Fees: this involves maintaining and disposing of records,withholding records,fees and other payment arrangements
