ENTWISTLE REVIEW THIS IS JUST A BRAIN STROM AND SHOULD NOT BE USED TO PLAGARIZE Summary Synthesizing the area of Entwistle's six models commences with summarizing four- chapter readings. This effort’s mission is intended to foster clarity, increase interaction, as well as lead to practical implications. Chapters eight to eleven of this book explore worldview issues, philosophical bases, and integration models. These six models constitute the interplay of psychology, religion and ideology. (Entwistle, 2015) Built on Niebuhr's Christ and Culture model, these models developed progressively by other scholars like Carter ad Narramore justifying their evolutionary nature (Kumar, 2008; Carter & Narramore, 2018). Generational interpretation of these models is, however, adaptable thereby reflecting the changing versions over time. In chapter eight, Entwistle's exposition informs and involves the reader in respect to all of these six models by stressing that each bears a linkage of psychological and theological elements. The explorations start with “Enemies” model, a model where they present psychology and Christianity as polar opposite foes which cannot exist together (Entwistle,2015, p.172). This model implies a severing of followers caught in between. In their transition to the “Spies” model, this model combines beneficial teachings and strategies of psychology with other helpful concepts from Christianity. The term “Colonialists” model has been identified with an orthodox Christian theology approach that embellishes on the integration of psychology and
ENTWISTLE REVIEW Christianity in understanding and practice. Chapter eight provides a platform for comparison of differing positions, promoting a critical debate which reveals defects in psychological and Entwistle further suggests that it is possible to fully understand God’s control over man through a blend of the two disciplines (the allies model) because each of them individually cannot give a complete explanation about this control. According to Entwistle (2015), psychology and Christian theology are both considered truths that come from God. In this model Entwistle points out that, God reigns supreme among all the worlds’ affairs and we should be careful about being narrow-minded because it may cause us to make wrong judgements. As suggested by Entwistle in 2015, such an approach becomes impossible to make a clear distinction between the sacred and secular. This model brings theological psychology together to invite us into an exploration of the splendor of God’s glory as it is shown to us. In addition, it indicates that God meant psychology to be an important instrument for living successfully. Despite the obvious disparities between theology and psychology, the Allies’ model suggests that the two domains should be able to work together without any conflicts for understanding divine governance better. Interact As a devoted Christian and an enthusiast of psychosocial studies, I can wholeheartedly endorse this model. In addition, I ask myself if Entwistle’s search for the perfect equilibrium could indirectly emphasize the details involved with unity and dilute the impact of the gospel message. There is an obvious effort into reaching this balancing point in Entwistle’s work (2015) where he balances the importance of theology and psychology. As argued out by Enwistle (2015), one’s world view is greatly influenced by theology; hence it should have priority. He also
