For your chosen theory: • Write a brief summary of your chosen theory According to Tzuo et al. (2011), he make the case that poststructuralists view that distinct people have distinct methods of understanding knowledge, which can lead to diverse ways of thinking and knowing. Poststructuralism is characterized as a mode of thinking, a style of philosophy, and a way of writing, yet the term should not be used to convey a sense of homogeneity, singularity, and unity. Poststructuralism offers a way of studying how knowledge is produced and criticizes the premises of structuralism. It argues that both are subject to bias and misinterpretation due to historical and cultural constraints on the study of underlying structures. Poststructuralist approaches argue that understanding an object, it is necessary to study the object itself and the knowledge system that produces the object (Williams, 2005). Consider the benefits and limitations of the theory and how it explains what is happening in the scenario? Adopting a post-structuralist point of view in education has the advantage of efficiently dealing with, rather than opposing, the complexities of human existence by deconstructing prevailing ideologies and power systems. For example, in this scenario, Grace, Chi and Prianka sometimes avoid some of the other children, hence as considering post-structuralism, the educator should encourage the kids to come up with their own answers while refusing to push any of his or her own. While for the limitation, according to the idea of post- structuralism, language and mind are more like an organic, cultural, social, and historical game of signs and symbols that is continually reproducing, doing research on itself, and driving learning rather than a structure or system. As instance, in this scenario, Priyanka that has been bullied would be helpless as educators cannot have a hand in this matter and every child has their own right to speak.
Apply your theory to the scenario and provide examples and descriptions of how children would learn if this theory underpinned the teacher’s practice. The children would learn to respect and putting themselves in others’ shoes. Although educators should not impose any of their opinion, but educators can challenge this way of thinking about ethics by posing hypothetical situation questions. For example, educators should ask the children that bullied Priyanka, what if you are the one who is being bullied, would you like that? This kind of hypothetical questions would encourage children to have a deeper thinking, not only that, but they will also be able to develop sympathy indirectly. Define and describe specific teaching strategies, how the classroom and learning materials might be designed and the teacher’s role as defined by your theory. As applying post-structural theory in early childhood education setting, this teaching strategies would be providing more freedom of options to the children, and they will develop this habit if we urge them to consider things from different viewpoints on a regular basis. They will discover how to start asking, “what about the perspectives of these other people?” instead of taking prevailing rhetoric for granted (Laws & Davies, 2000). For example, educators can set up a small area which encourages children to come and have a talk with each other and congregate here to talk about "what happened" from their perspectives. The educators should let the children to voice their own opinions and after the discussion has ended, the educators should ask some hypothetical situation questions. With this teaching practice, they will develop stronger critical thinking skills by considering other points of view. Also because of this, many disputes and prejudices will naturally be eliminated.
