Question: Why do certain people not honor the unwritten rules of society? If you betray someone's trust, but you wish for that to not happen to you, where does the disconnect lie in the
moral standards?
I did not have to go far to find something that relates to my question.. Under the passage of “Realism and Anti-Realism” in chapter 1 of Introduction to Philosophy: Moral relativism is brought up. There is no universal code of ethics for this belief. Your morals are only relative to the standpoint of the people who embrace them. Moral relativism would fall under the category of anti realism since it denies the idea that morality exists independently of us and would argue it’s contingent on the cultures of people. This alone can make it difficult to understand someone’s perspective in life because there is no moral standard to what is wrong or right. It does, however, help me understand where the disconnect lies for folks who seem to follow the “rules for thee, not for me” way of life.
