Discussion Board Response: Module 1 Do you think it is good that a uniform set of international laws does not exist? Why or why not? Is there any way we could enforce a uniform system of international law in the world today or in the near future? How could we do this or why is this not possible? Do you think it is good that a uniform set of international laws does not exist? Why or why not? I agree that it is good that a uniform set of international laws does not exist. Due to the extreme variable differences from country to country, leaving each to their sovereignty and autonomy is the utmost commonality between all countries. In this case, I think more countries “agree to disagree” on many laws thus leaving each to function how they best see fit. However, I can think of several instances where international laws would be of benefit, such as environmental strategies or cyber-security. The logistics of each governance to abide, enforce, and agree to the law would be the greatest challenge in forming the framework into an actionable law. Is there any way we could enforce a uniform system of international law in the world today or in the near future? I do not think there is a way we could enforce a system of international laws today or in the near future. As mentioned above there are common goals that I believe many or all countries could potentially agree upon but the strategy on how to enforce and enact the law would be too variable. Accountability and enforcement look different for each government, thus from the outside looking this could cause serious strain and tension between international relations more than the benefit. How could we do this or why is this not possible? In a perfect world if all countries (hypothetically) agreed on the law and the enforcement, benefits, and repercussions I still believe it would not be possible. I do not think it will ever be conceivable due to the original statement of the extreme diversity of cultures, religions, free will, morals, and more that it would be impossible to successfully implement a uniform system internally.
