A)
My view of a professional counselor is someone who works with individuals to accomplish mental health goals that they are struggling with in a positive way instead of a destructive one. Professional counselors utilize the knowledge that they learned in school as well as from real world experience that they then use to help those individuals. I view a professional counselor as someone who creates a safe space for individuals who they are helping and gives them a space to navigate the road map of their lives with them.
B)
My viewpoints on the ACA code of ethics is that it provides professional counselors with standards that they have to abide by. The ACA code of ethics not only protects the professional counselor during sessions, but it also protects their clients from any type of ethical problems which could potentially harm them. I view the ACA code of ethics as a set of guidelines that help professional counselors remain morally aware of their decisions while treating clients. C)
I expect to learn more about the ethical codes that are in place for professional counselors
by the end of this class. I also expect to learn about teaching others self-care and being an
advocate for all of my clients. I also expect to learn more about any ethical codes that pertain to any cultural boundaries that could impact the client/helper relationship.
