2 I feel like these situations are just as important as the big issues. In fact, they may potentially be even more important because many people would overlook a small issue like this. The traditional formulation of the nature of the police role emphasizes impartial enforcement of the law and accountability (Lambert, 2023). If we abide by these standards then we are not above the law, we cannot look the other way, and we must hold each other accountable. So, while a dollar candy bar may not seem like a big deal, it needs to be enforced anyway. If it were a private citizen doing the same thing, we would enforce the law. So, in keeping this in mind, I would draw the officer’s attention to the fact that what he did was in fact a crime. I would suggest to him that he pay for the candy bar that he took. I would also remind him that this is a crime scene, and he could have potentially contaminated the scene. If the senior officer did not heed my advice, then I would ultimately have to report them to my training officer or another officer in charge since being accountable isn’t just about your actions, but those of your team as well. In the second situation, I would immediately report the issue to my training officer or another officer in charge. I would not even take the time to confront the officer first because the issue of being intoxicated while on duty is extremely dangerous. It is dangerous to the officer, fellow officers, and the community. It is a significant safety risk. This issue is not simply frowned upon, but it breaks the law as well as OSHA regulations for safety. While officers who drink while on duty are not as vulnerable as those who use illicit drugs there are still obvious problems (Pollock, 2021). So even if faced with a chance of retaliation this issue would need to be brought to those in charge. As new police chief I feel like it would be essential to address potential ethical concerns and corruption within our department. My first act would be to change how we hire to ensure
