This news article is about U.S Representative Ron Kind wanting to urge for the push
away from loans and grant programs that leave students in debt. He believes that the
Higher Education Act should be getting more attention so that they can fix the
affordability issue. I will be using this news article to show where some congressmen
stand on the student debt crisis. I will also use this to further push the idea of how we
should revise the Higher Education Act.

Congressman Peter DeFazio. (n.d.). Retrieved October 19, 2022, from

In this article, DeFazio believes and supports the funding for students to attend college as
he also supports lowering student loan interest rates. He believes that the federal
government should be helping and not gaining from the students. He’s proposing a new
solution for the Higher Education Act which lowers debt. I will use this information to
explain how there can be new solutions to fix student debt and ways people such as
Senators or Representatives can help.

This article states that the start of the Higher Education Act provided inequality due to it
being made and actively changing between the years 1890-1940. Though later on with all
the new laws that provided equality and change in the new era tuition and inflation raised.
In 2007 the great recession happened and that provide a huge boost in the increase in
tuition which plays a big role in why students seek loans and are now in debt. I will use
this journal piece to help bring sight onto why student debt happened.

This journal is about a U.S department of education spokesperson coming up with ideas
to make loans free and ways to make repaying them easier and more “flexible”. This
article also provides information on debt relief and programs to help students. I plan to
use this information to provide more insight into student debt and why it was raised. I’ll
also use this found information to give more info on what laws made student debt
difficult.
