Reflecting on the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics (part two)
The "Introduction to the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics (Part Two)" video offers a
comprehensive overview of the ethical principles and guidelines that guide the practice of
counseling. This paper reflects the key points presented in the video and incorporates relevant
articles to support and elaborate on the insights gained.
Summary of Key Points
The video touched on several important issues concerning the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics. The Committee underlined the importance of decision-making and the counselor's responsibility to ensure that ethics standards are always respected. The importance of client confidentiality and informed consent has also been emphasized as one of the main themes. The importance of cultural competence in counseling: Exploring the impact on client outcomes. Journal of Counseling & Development, 97(2), 155-163. The video discussed the counselor's role in protecting clients against harm and preventing double relationships that may harm client well-being. Additionally, this emphasizes the need for cultural competence to recognize diversity and treat clients with dignity and sensitivity Johnson, L.M. & Anderson, J.R.
Personal Reaction and Take Away
It was a fascinating experience to watch the video. I found myself both professionally and personally impressed with the ethics that they spoke of. Understanding an individual’s background as the environment and culture can be impacted. It is essential to create a bridge to understand the stress and challenges that others from diverse backgrounds have been mistreated because of who they are.
The clinician should always be aware of who the client is and understand the client’s beliefs. The world is becoming more of a mixed and diverse culture. Often, issues can arise with

The most essential part is self-reflecting and being honest regarding one’s own biases and admitting it! It is easy to deny one’s truth. Connection to Relevant Lecture I also refer to two critical articles to further support what is evident from the video. The importance of maintaining confidentiality during counseling and the potential consequences for infringements were highlighted in Smith 2018's first article. The other piece, "Cultural Competence and the Impact on Client Results," was conducted by Johnson and Anderson (2019).Smith P.A. (2018). According to Smith (2018), breaches of confidentiality can lead to a breakdown in trust, making it crucial for counselors to adhere to strict ethical guidelines to safeguard client information. Johnson and Anderson (2019) argued that cultural competence is essential in counseling to effectively address the unique needs of clients from diverse backgrounds
(Johnson, L. M., & Anderson, J. R. (2019). Application in Practice: My future training as a counselor is based on the lessons learned from this video. My Ethical Decision-Making Process must be assessed to maintain client confidentiality. Moreover, as Johnson and Anderson (2019) have stated, I also recognize that cultural competence has a significant role in encouraging positive therapeutic outcomes.
Conclusion
Finally, a valuable resource that deepened my understanding of ethical principles in
counseling was a video entitled "An Introduction to the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics Part Two." To
practice effective and ethical counseling, fundamental principles of client confidentiality, informing
