I really enjoyed the readings this final week. I loved when Boyd K. Packer
said, "The priesthood cannot be conferred like a diploma. It cannot be
handed to you as a certificate. It cannot be delivered to you as a message or
sent to you in a letter. It comes only by proper ordination. An authorized
holder of the priesthood has to be there. He must place his hands upon your
head and ordain you." This really shows you the importance of the
priesthood.
I also loved when Elder Hugh B. Brown talked about the characteristics of a
prophet. Which were, would speak in the name of the Lord, would predict
future events, would boldly claim that God has spoken to him, and would
denounce wickedness fearlessly.
Thank you for your comments Skye. I also really liked the quote by President Boyd K
Packer and how he talked about the priesthood being a thing that should not be
taken lightly. The priesthood is something that can only be passed on by the power
of God through another worthy priesthood holder and isn’t something you can run
for or that can be given by just a random person. You need to be worthy and the
person giving it needs to be worthy and only then is God going to be able to allow
the priesthood to work through you to bless the lives of other people. Thank you for
your thoughts.
This is so important to remember as Latter-day Saints. The priesthood is a calling
and a privilege. We must constantly try to remain worthy of it and try to use it for
good. An authorized priesthood holder is capable of making a huge difference in
their community if asked by God to do so. Prophets are also given such a beautiful
responsibility to be the mouth piece of the Lord. I wonder how stressful at times that
may feel. But I know that God has called worthy individuals to lead and guide His
church in the way that He wants it to be run.
From today's reading I really enjoyed the comment by Elder Wirthlin about what the
word
seek means. I really like how he mentioned the word "active" in this definition
because it reminds me of what the Gospel is. It makes me think of how easy it is to
become static when we believe that we are practicing the Gospel principles well
enough, yet, we prevent ourselves from enjoying the blessings that come from
leaving the comfort zone. Elder Wirthlin uses Abrahm's example to show that true
disciples are constantly looking for righteousness, and we know from Abraham's life
that the seeking process will always bring discomfort with it. Just as this is true, it is
also true that the discomfort that we might feel is not comparable to the blessings
that we receive during and after that process.
Thank you for your comments Andy. I too think it is interesting that there is a
correlation between seeking and being active. I think there are many similarities
between this and faith. If you truly have faith, then you will put forth the action to
seek out the things that we are looking for. Seeking takes a lot of faith and we can
build our faith by taking action on the things we are wanting to find out. This is how
we can grow a stronger relationship with our Heavenly Father and become more like
him. Thank you again for your thoughts.
Thanks Andy for your insights! I couldn't agree more with you. I love the ending of
your insight how you said, "the discomfort that we might feel is not comparable to
the blessings that we receive during and after the process." This makes it feel easy
in a way that I understand, but will it be easy probably not. The thought of it being
easy will help though. I believe if we take the time to study and understand when
we see Gods hand in all things, then I think it would be a lot easier to get out of that
comfort zone
