Shergill 1 Bhavneet Kaur Shergill Dr. Greg Millard POLI 1110: Ideology & Politics 11September 2023 Envisioning an Ideal Society: Key Characteristics and Their Attainment In order to achieve a peaceful and just society, it is necessary to identify the important features that would lead to a higher quality of life for all people. In this essay, I will define and explain three important features of a perfect society that I believe human societies are capable of achieving. In addition, I will evaluate how well our contemporary society corresponds with these traits and offer one step that could help us get closer to this ideal vision. Social Justice and Equality: There would be a strong dedication to social justice and equality in the society I'd like to live in. The implication is that everyone would have equal access to opportunities and resources, regardless of background, color, gender, or financial status. It would actively address and reduce discrimination and systemic inequality. Evaluation of Today's Society: There are still large differences in terms of money, education, and access to healthcare even though there has been development in many regions of the world. There is still societal inequality and discrimination. Diversity programs and anti- discrimination laws have been enacted, although their effectiveness isn't always 100 percent. Taking a Step Forward Society might make greater investments in job training, healthcare, and educational initiatives in underserved areas to better line with this trait. More stringent anti-discrimination laws and procedures could also aid in lowering structural inequality Environmental Sustainability: In my ideal world, environmental sustainability would be given top importance. This entails implementing behaviors and laws that safeguard the
Shergill 2 environment, lower carbon emissions, preserve natural resources, and support sustainable development. Evaluation of Today's Society: By adopting renewable energy sources and raising public awareness of climate change, our civilization is moving closer to environmental sustainability. To fully transition to a sustainable economy and reduce carbon emissions, there is still much work to be done. Taking a Step Forward: Society may spend more on clean energy technologies, encourage public transportation, and reward eco-friendly behavior among businesses and people in order to improve environmental sustainability. It would be advantageous to strengthen global climate change accords. Inclusive Governance: In my ideal society, the governance system would be incredibly inclusive and participatory. There would be actual public participation in decision-making, and government acts would be transparent and answerable. Assessment of Today's Society: A lot of contemporary democracies provide some level of transparency and popular participation. The fulfillment of complete inclusivity and accountability is hampered by issues like voter suppression, political division, and the role of money in politics. Taking a Step Forward : To strengthen governance inclusivity, we might undertake reforms such as campaign finance reform to minimize the influence of money in politics, extend voting access, and encourage civic education to engage citizens in the democratic process.
