Report
PAC - political action committees War chest - campaign fund of a candidate Dark ads - ads that are anonymously placed in only the target audience’s feed and not the public ones 5.11 FECA (Federal election campaign act) - tightened reporting requirements and limited candidates adventures to spread info FEC (federal election commission) - monitors and enforces the regulations, and created legal definition for political action committees Hard money - money given straight to candidate Soft money - indirectly given, either to a interest group or party Bipartisan campaign reform act (BCRA) - aka mccain feingold act, banned soft money contributions to national parties, limited hard money donations (2000 dollars, 5000 from pacs, 25000 from national parties) Citizens united vs federal election commission - upheld the limits on campaign contributions but candidates could use all their money if they wanted to Dark money - individuals would give money to soft money groups to give to individuals, again finding loopholes in laws Connected PACs - PACs funded separately from the organization’s treasury (makes limited contributions to funding)
Nonconnected PACs - PACs that have no sponsors and usually formed around a single issue Leadership PACs - type of nonconnected PACs, started by current or former elected officials that raise money from citizens (cannot be used to help fund their own campaigns, but can cover travel and other expenses for candidates) Super PACs - newest type of PACs, creation resulted from citizens vs FEC case (these PACs don't have any limit for donations)
