Option #2: Website Representing the Subject Case Study Norma Cassidy Colorado State University Global POL101: Introduction to Political Science Dr. Pressey December 17, 2023 1
2 Website Representing the Subject Case Study The topic I chose to dissect for my Module 8 Portfolio Project is a comparative analysis of the government and political system of the United States and Canada. As mentioned in the Module 3 Portfolio Milestone, the website I chose is to support my final project is https://www.ourcommons.ca/procedure/overview/index-e.html . The website is an official Canadian website, providing extensive information concerning the parliamentary systems of the nation. The purpose of this paper is to summarize and describe important information on the website, while also showcasing website accuracy, and how it compares to outside sources. Summary of Website and Information Presented The website primarily discusses the ins and outs of the Canadian governmental system. To begin, “Canada is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy” (House of Commons Canada, n.d., Section: Introduction). Consequently, Canadas government consist of various parts. The House of Commons Canada (n.d.) shares, the head of state is the Crown. The current Crown is King Charles III. There is also the executive and the legislative branch. The executive branch is the Prime Minister and cabinet, and the legislative branch is the Senate and House of Commons (House of Commons, (n.d.). As a result, Canada includes both aspects of constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Additionally, the Website details how each branch operates to uphold the Canadian constitution. According to the Department of Justice Canada (2021), The Constitution Act of 1867 and 1982, are both included Canadas Constitution, which is the highest law in Canada; it also confirms Canada's dual legal system. Overall, the House of Commons Website illustrate the many intricacies involved in the operations of Canada’s political systems, which will greatly support comparing and contrasting this country to the United States.
