Please answer the following question:
You are an urban planner in your local municipality. Building on the policy issue you
selected for your research paper, please identify what course of action you would take
to ensure that this issue is addressed in your municipality. How would you work with
council members? What challenges would you encounter? How would work to
overcome these and gain the support of the council and mayor to address the issue?
In your response you should:
1.
Identify your municipality and local member of council, please include your postal
code.
2.
Identify what policy issue you would like to address and discuss whether or not
this issue has been historically addressed by your municipality, what actions have
they taken thus far and what actions should be taken?
3.
Outline your advocacy plan- how would you bring this issue to the attention of
your council members and the mayor? Feel free to be creative with how you
would advocate to your local council member and mayor to gain their support.
4.
What challenges do you anticipate you could face? What barriers exist to the
implementation of your policy response to the problem you have identified?
5.
How would you overcome these barriers to ensure the problem is addressed and
your solution is implemented?
Required Format:
1.
Responses should be between 5 to 6 pages in length, no more than 1300 words,
double spaced. Please submit your response in a PDF via D2L no later than
December 4th by 3:00 PM.
2.
Use appropriate citations to support your arguments and discussion of the policy
issue and your advocacy plan. You should use a minimum of 4 peer reviewed
sources. Use MLA or APA citations. Bibliography and title page are required and
do not count towards the word/page requirement.
3.
Please note, exams will not be accepted beyond the final due date, there are no
make-up exams, and exams submitted after the deadline will receive a grade of
zero- no exceptions. Please plan accordingly to complete your exam in the
required timeframe.
