Report
Ethical frameworks that were used for the creation of the Paris Agreement I feel has a mixture of Western, Indigenous Tribal and Eastern frameworks. All three seem to be a key factor to pull from each one and make it successful. The Paris Agreement’s Western framework created a law binding contract, once you sign on, no one gets a pass on the agreement/terms. Ethically this approach is doing what is right for the Earth and all living things on it. There are no specific requirements on how or how much emissions each country is supposed to reduce but there are expectations based off of science. The Paris Agreement also has Eastern ethical frameworks by providing a protocol on how they plan to achieve their goal of reducing the earth’s temperature by at least 2 degrees and respect for each other and putting their efforts into preventing global warming. They chart and report back every 5 years on the progress they have made on their pledges. This to me is a worldwide team effort and respecting one another. Countries who have developed must provide funds to those countries who need financial assistance to reduce emissions and adapt. This plan calls for group efforts from each country that is signed into the Paris agreement, individual action isn’t enough to reduce emissions and restore the planet. The Paris Agreement also contains Indigenous frameworks by working on restoring nature to provide cleaner air, reducing chemicals and restoring the forest. They are building a global movement to fight back industries that are damaging the climate such as mining, logging, fossil fuel pipelines and damns. The Paris agreement chooses who can commit to the treaty and their agreement is to reduce the area targeted that contributes to global warming. Wealthy countries who can implement change
in their own country as well we support other countries to assist with the transition. There is no set dollar amount, but they are encouraged to help those who contributed the least to emissions. For instance, India pledges to reduce the usage of diesel generators and provide alternative energy options to eliminate it. Countries that already live in reduced emissions are showing countries like the U.S. what they do and how to achieve their pledge and reduce emissions which is very important. Overall, the Paris Agreement is a fast track to provide our future generations with the opportunity to live in a world that is cleaner, healthier and potentially can live a longer life than we are currently seeing today. I feel everyone should do their part and achieve the bigger picture. Denchak, M. (2021, February 19). Paris Climate Agreement: Everything You Need To Know .
