Suicidal Tendencies Monica Hopkins Grand Canyon University PSYC-570-0500: Ray McClenen May 2, 2023
Suicide The tale "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" comes to mind whenever I consider suicide and those who are depressed. The explanation is that people with SI frequently express their desire to end their life verbally. The distinction appears to be in how the person reacts to them. Suicide is the deliberate self-infliction of harm with the goal of dying. Suicidal behavior disorder (SBD) was added to the DSM-5 as a disorder for additional study and possible inclusion in the diagnostic framework. When someone tries at suicide, they damage themselves with the intention of taking their own life but are not successful. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide is linked to various types of harm and violence. People who are having trouble fitting in can occasionally experience hallucinations that make them want to give up. Strong feelings of hopelessness or the perception that they have no options or control over circumstances in their lives put a person at a high risk of taking their own life (Kearney & Trull, 2018). Most people must deal with having the want to give up. Suicide is one of the biggest challenges for mental health academics and doctors, and the problem is getting worse due to rising patterns in the global suicide rate. A suicide-related diagnosis might result in several advantageous developments (Fehling & Selby, 2021). Suicide Risk Factors There are numerous factors that might either enhance or decrease the risk of suicide. According to Schimelpfening (2009), prior suicide attempts, a history of depression and other mental illnesses, severe illnesses such as chronic pain, criminal/legal issues, job/financial problems or loss, impulsive or aggressive tendencies, substance use, current or previous traumatic childhood experiences, a sense of hopelessness, violence victimization and/or perpetration, bullying, a family/loved one's history of suicide, loss of relationships, and high conflict situations are all individual factors that raise the risk of suicide. Considering prior suicide attempts, a history of depression and other mental illnesses, severe illnesses such as chronic pain, criminal/legal issues, job/financial problems or loss, impulsive or aggressive tendencies, substance use, current or previous traumatic childhood experiences, a sense of hopelessness, violence victimization and/or perpetration, bullying, a family/loved one's history of suicide, loss of relationships, and high conflict situations are all individual factors that raise the risk of suicide(CDC, 2021). The decision to commit suicide and the power to end one's life are both considered from a psychological standpoint. These signs appear because of the maturation of two types of mental perceptions that can result in a person's death. The formation of thoughts that result in suicide is influenced by feelings of frustration, sadness, loneliness, solitude, and painful bereavement. There is no fear of causing terror, harm, or pain, which results in the emergence of lethal suicidal symptoms and the taking of such an action in life. One of the main causes of the appearance of suicidal thoughts and symptoms is the increased load and family pressure of raising several children in the absence of resources and possibilities for employment. These tendencies include the commission of crimes like body mutilation and self-inflicted damage, which cause suffering to one's own body. These are the psychological viewpoints that contribute to body self-harm and suicide attempts (Chu et al., 2017). Society’s view on suicide might change based on the individual’s age. Is someone too old or too young to commit suicide. Age-related brain degeneration causes signs of suicide to appear because of stress and frustration, which causes the body to suffer self-inflicted harm. According to Durkheim's view, there is a balance between social and moral integration in life, which can become out of balance and result in the expression of suicidal tendencies. The tendency to end
