The Teachers Responsibilities when Planning Curriculum As a teacher, I must provide children with learning experiences that acquire them with knowledge, skills, and understanding. Identified goals or standards are to be targeted in all domains of development and subject areas (NAEYC,n.d) A developmentally appropriate practice approach will be based on my own knowledge of young children and each student individually. The student's needs, interests, and their characteristics is to be displayed within their learning experience through activities and the environment.
Thematic Units and How it Supports Instruction Thematic Units are themes or topics that teachers use to motivate children in their learning opportunities. Themes that children find interesting and engaging within their learning and provide them learning experiences. Teachers create lessons or activities based on the theme to reach goals and objectives. The teacher can plan learning opportunities in small and large groups and individually learning.
Using Colors as a Thematic Unit Using colors as a thematic unit, provides a variety of different learning opportunities. Through sensory play, children can sort colors using fine motor skills. As the teacher, I can read books that provide visual arts and crafts of different colors and provide an activity for children to create their own crafts. Finger painting can promote children with the opportunity to mix colors and learn what colors can be made. As a whole group, we can interact together by naming things of a certain color.
