Unit 4 Study Questions These questions are a guide to help you navigate the readings for this unit and prepare for the unit quiz. Please note that not all questions are required for points. Those questions that will be graded for points are indicated below. The following questions refer to the Matson, et al. (1999) article: (#2 and 3 are required) 2. Is using the QABF better than using an experimental-analog functional assessment? Why or why not? - Using the QABF can be more beneficial at times than using an experimental- analog functional assessment. The QABF can gather information based on caregivers and teachers perspectives and allow the behavior analyst to have insight into the learners main needs. EFAs are highly time consuming and cost ineffective, making the QABF a reliable, quick and cheap option for someone who is needing recommendations for behavior modification on a short time- frame. 3. Describe what the QABF is and what specific information it provides. - The QABF is a scale about the functions of behavioral function which has high interrater and test-retest reliability. There are five scales within the assessment and behavior is rated for each one to determine the functions, such as escape, attention, nonsocial, tangible, and pain. The QABF can provide clinicians with a time-efficient method for assessing behavior functions and therefore being able to create interventions which can help modify that behavior. The following questions refer to the Anderson and Long (2002) article: (#1, 2, 3, and 4 are required) 1. What kind of information does a descriptive assessment provide and how is this information different than information found using an analogue functional analysis? - Descriptive assessments include direct observation and can provide information about naturally occurring schedules of reinforcement and other variables associated with the problem behavior. They can show how reinforcement operates in the natural environment. An analogue function analysis is used for identifying reinforcement that maintains unwanted behavior. The assessment aims to manipulate different situations in the environment to see how the antecedents and consequences for behavior may change. 2. Describe what a structured descriptive assessment (SDA) is.
