Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice, 21 (1), 75–83. https://doi.org/10.1037/bar0000179 Dependent Variable The dependent variable in the article is the occurance of disrobing. This was operational defined by attempting to or removing an article of clothing (excluding socks) or attempting to undo his pants or zipper. This was collected by computerized data collection program calculating the latency of the behavior. Independent Variable Functional anaylsis procedures outlined by Iwata et al. and a CSA assessment Disrobing was blocked no attention provided. Single-Subject Design Researchers used a multielement design based on a functional analysis. A reversal design was also embedded changing criteria Data Collection Procedure and Interobserver Agreement Method Latency was recorded by trained data collectors using a computerized data collection program for the behaviors of disrobing aggression, disruption and inappropriate urination. IOA data was calculated for disrobing was done on a 10-s interval by interval basis. Validity There were several limitations by researchers, there was no generalization in settings and did not collect procedural fidelity data. The intervention is time intensive but the results of using noncontingent delivery of attention and access to competing delivery is favorable and socially acceptable rather than disrobing. Conclusions The results of the study were effective but there were no generalization and it did state it would be time consuming. This could be an issue with caregivers and stakeholders to replicate. The tools used could also be hard to transfer to a different setting or participant as it used trained data collectors and a data collection program rather than easier methods like pencil and paper. APA-formatted reference: Carlson, J. I., Luiselli, J. K., Slyman, A., & Markowski, A. (2008). Choice-making as intervention for public disrobing in children with developmental disabilities. Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, 10 (2), 86– 90. https://doi.org/10.1177/1098300707312544 Dependent Variable Frequency of public disrobing and urinary incontinence Independent Variable Choice making intervention, this allowed particpants to change their clothes at scheduled times during the day Single-Subject Design Intervention was evaluated by a nonconcurrent multiple baseline design Data Collection Procedure and Interobserver Agreement Method Frequency of disrobing and urinary incontinence was recorded throughout a 7 hour school day for two participants in the study. IOA, two memebers of classroom staff recorded the behaviors. This was done simulanesouly during 25% of baseline days and intervention days for both participants. IOA was calculated by dividing the smaller daily freq. by the larger freq and multiplying it by 100. Evelyn averaged 96% IOA for disrobing and Mike averaged 97% Validity Teachers were able to integrate the technique into their school schedule with no difficulty (none reported). Could be improved by performing formal assessment of procedureal integrity.Would have been able to improve by fading choice making oppurtuinties. No report of long term results. Choice making did not eliminate the behviors but decreased them significantly. Intervention implemented in specialized school, did not generalize settings Conclusions Choice making was effective in decreasing the behaviors, did not eliminate them. IOA data was high. No long term results and no generalizing of settings. Choice making did enhance instruction of both participants. Article 3 3
